If ISU could schedule KSU as non-conference, would you want them to?

This might be a top-ten-over-engineered panic attack, over nothing, i have witnessed on this site.

We are worried about a rivalry that doesn't exist (ask Kstate fans) with a state that has less going for it than Iowa and their biggest claim to fame is Kansas City, Missouri.

Do not get pulled into comparing ourselves to one of the lowest rated academic universities in the country. I am not a big believer in these ratings, but it is what it is.

Look to the future - let's get a rivalry with Colorado......hmm.......Manhattan vs. Boulder. Tough call. Hahaha

KSU fans care about this game a ton. A lot of them think it’s a bigger deal than KSUKU.

People who try and down play this game are acting in a far more contrived way than the people celebrating it, IMO.

And there are isu fans that care about this game a ton.

Let's get to specifics/numbers - which cannot be proven either way. Imo, about 20% of each fan base thinks this rivalry means something. 80% don't care, imo. KSU's rivalry with Kansas greatly outweighs us.

The fact that the people that claim this rivalry means something when we are already in second place is wierd.

Again, let's get a rivalry going where we are not second place to an existing rival and with a school that is not in our geographic area.

That would be best for Iowa State, imo.

Thinking about it, did we really have a true rival in the OG Big 8 or Big 12?

Closest thing we had was a trophy game with Missouri, but they had KU as their hated rival.

I think the KSU deal is more of our desire for a conference rival with all the realignment nonsense. It’s more friendly due to the similarities between the two, but ever since Campbell started winning that game more, and adding in Tang’s nonsense in hoops, it has gotten more fun recently.

Now the Ireland game adds another fun angle to the matchup.

But we don’t really have a hated rival outside of Iowa. Just like KSU doesn’t have one outside of KU. But if fans want to have fun with it, let them.

I agree. However, please refrain (not you) from taking over a thread on how dreadful this will be if it goes away.

Poll choices are a bit too limited, but I vote No in general.

Mainly, I hate playing conference opponents as "non-conference" games. Even the few matchups designated by necessity during transition to Big XII 16 has been annoying (and didn't even involve ISU).

It would be cool to keep the continuous rivalry streak, but with expansion to 16 (and Sunflower being the obvious protected rivaly), it's unrealistic if you want to maintain some schedule rotation balance.

If we still were at 12 (or maybe even 14), and it was interrupted, I might make more of a push.

As others have said, we'll have it 4 of 5 / 8 of 10 years most likely. And overall for the conference, it's better than some of SEC's imbalance (Team A playing at Team B only once every 11 seasons, and BS like that).

The uninterrupted series thing will remain intact at about 110 years, still in rare territory historically.

I doubt any other longtime rivals that had pauses will re-establish and maintain a 1-century streak ever again. And if they do, we'll all be long dead anyway and won't care.

Kstate fans saying there is no rivalry is proof in of itself that there is a rivalry lol. Ending one of the longest continuously played series in college football for no reason is what gets me. Disrespectful the Iowa State.

We're eroding the tradition of the sport on all fronts so sure let's also stop playing our traditional rivals too, why not.

I don’t run in KSU circles, but I find this very hard to believe. I bet if you asked 100 KSU fans, maybe one or two might find this a bigger deal than KU game.

Reverse the names. There’s not one ISU fan I know that would say KSU is a bigger deal than the Iowa game. Unless they were just being pissy cause we lost.

Yes, there is a history of us playing continuously for 100 plus years. Nothing more nothing less. Is it too bad it's going away? I suppose so, but I don't really care.

Please look to the future and don't worry about the past. Learn from the past but keep moving forward. I choose to keep moving forward.

TV and media have pushed the branding of this game. I know of not one person that cares about this game outside of a minority K-State or Iowa State fans.

I think they care more about beating KU on a personal hatred basis, but view ISU as more important in achieving their goals.

Which is kind of how I feel about Iowa and KSU. Losing to Iowa hurts more, but beating KSU is more important.

I think playing K-State each year would be more enjoyable for the rivalry once the Cyhawk game goes away. Even if it’s home and home with KState.

For the 200th time. We are not “stopping” games against KSU. It’s literally a single year and we pick it right back up in 2028.

Bedlam has been stopped for the foreseeable future. KU/MIzzou was stopped for a long time (glad they are playing each other this year). OU/Nebraska has been stopped outside of a game here or there. Actual rivalries that have been stopped.

Defending a bad choice by listing a bunch of other stupid choices isn't the win you think it is

imo 80% care and 20% dont. See how easy it is to pull numbers out of thin air? lolz you're like a textbook example of false consensus bias

Well considering they are completely different situations I take it you didn’t comprehend my post. Which isn’t surprising given some you guys can’t figure out the difference between not playing for one single year vs. completely taking a decade or more off from playing each other.

Way up there
I love playing K State, I probably like it because its always been a close away game and have been to Manhattan for ISU games more than any other big 12 school but I don't really see it as a rivalry. Snyder dominated us, we're competitive now but we exaggerate this game bc of how brutal some of those losses were. I would prefer to play them every year but I don't like using a non con spot for a conference team, it doesn't feel right.

I don't want to be insulting, but you're the one that isn't quite displaying a grasp of the situation. Belittling others on this point (how many years off, considering the issue under discussion is a rivalry game that literally has never taken a single year off) is a really bad look.

A really bad look? Grasp of the situation?

Respectfully, it’s not that serious. It’s a football game thats not going to be played 1 year. Sorry if you don’t like mine and some other opinions on it.
