I said that for a long time too.
But was he?

Hunter and Hali and Wigg, sure. Foster, in theory. But how many absolute misses?

Jakolby Long. T Lewis. Dubar. Blackwell. Simeon Carter.

And transfers, my dear god. Nixon. Javan johnson. Harris. Hans Brase. Beverly. Holden. Zoran Talley Jr.

So yeah he hit a home runs but then struck out like crazy. I begin to wonder if the home runs were pure dumb luck.

Just so glad its over.
THT too

Steve could really evaluate talent but just couldn't seem to build a roster. There is definitely a difference.

Also, no momentum killing timeouts after ISU went on a run and extended it's lead...and TJ actually called a TO to stop an OSU run.

Small things but they make a difference.

Another difference is that Brockington and Kalscheur are strong enough to finish when they get to the rim. Bolton was great at getting to the rim but not finishing.

Granted it's only been 2 games but you can already see a difference in coaching and in actual play...there's a different energy with the team and coaching staff and hopefully things keep improving as the season goes on, something that didn't happen the last couple of years.
Those momentum killing timeouts drove me crazy!

How the heck does Ken Pom have Oregon St. 30 spots higher than us?

You forgot the best one. THT. Plus you can't deny Nader and Burton completely turning a corner with him. Steve wasn't good, but he wasn't awful like people thought. I am fascinated with his collapse. Hoping some day Williams will let us know.

Dude. Cmon. It’s okay to just say he was terrible. We don’t have to lie to ourselves to give false hope for the season anymore.

Steve Prohm was a very bad mens basketball coach. Stand in front of a mirror and say it out loud. It will set you free.

Lol, you're the one who's still got Steve living rent free in his head. I can acknowledge his problems and accept the tenure. You blindly deny truth to protect whatever ego is associated with his tenure.

TJ is actually a better recruiter. Prohm was given a completely loaded team and solid program. TJ was there to help Prohm the first year. But as Fred’s players left it was apparent that Prohm was not the answer.
I love the TJ Hire and I am 100% on board.
TJ has always been a great recruiter. I am glad Prohm is gone.
But, his recruiting was actually quite good.
Wigington, Halliburton, Hunter and THT rival anybody Fred recruited out of high school. Shaok as a transfer. He also had too many dogs as well, plus could not put it together.

edit - did not realize somebody already said the same thing. Sorry.

So Prohm’s problem was that he just completely sucked as a coach. He had to have superior talent and even then, he would do things as a coach to put us in a position to lose.

I’m just baffled anyone still tries to defend Prohm as anything but bad.

He was one of the worst coaches I‘ve ever seen. When he still had the previous staffs players, he didn’t do much of anything, which I guess was his best performance as a coach. When he had his players, he looked lost, his teams played lost, he lost locker rooms, he didn’t handle player egos, and he had one of the worst basketball seasons possible last year. If last season couldn’t convince someone, then nothing can. It was a historically bad season.

maybe he will figure it out some day , but I don’t see that happening from what I’ve seen.

Say he still lives rent free in my head, sure, but he’s not some rival coach. He was the head coach of a program I love and did almost incalculable damage to it.

An analogy: person fixes up a nice car that’s in kinda rough shape. Does a nice restoration on it and it’s looking and running great. I mean that car is really tuned up and ready to race. That person then sees another car he’d like to fix up and moves on to that. He gives this car he just fixed up to Steve Prohm. Fast forward 6 years and you see this car in Steve’s front yard on blocks and rusted out and it looks like some high schooler‘s fast and furious influenced mod project from 2001.

Would you say Steve was a good car owner?

Just so strange, how did that guy have an undefeated season? That takes good decisions from the coach to happen.

And he did just as good as Fred with almost the exact same roster. Like I and others have been saying for years.....everyone was chewing the bark off each others log fantasizing what Fred would have been had he stayed. Final Fours and conference championships galore. And then so hurt JP didn't hire TJ, laid those BS expectations at Steve's feet June of 2015 even though Fred did none of that when he was here! Steve screwed the pooch his last two years.....big time.....it's now TJ's turn. BE HAPPY! Why don't you and others let it go? What are you.......12?

I’d be okay if we stopped rehashing SP. TJ is the man now and has gotten his tenure off to a good start. I’m more interested in seeing him build his program.

I agree but it is tough. Even basic coaching 101 stuff that TJ does seems like atomic sorcery compared to how many dumb things we've been subjected too for 5 years.

What year did Prohm have an undefeated season like you claim?
'Prohm was named Murray State's 15th head coach on May 23, 2011, after Kennedy left for Texas A&M. In his first season, he led the Racers to their third straight Ohio Valley Conference regular-season title, a school record-tying 31 wins (including a school-best 23–0 start), a top-10 national ranking and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament.'. Wikipedia.

Might have had a loss in there but point still stands.

Prohm inherited a great team his first year as Coach. Murray State lost two games that year. Did not even go undefeated in the Conference.

Prohm inherits great teams. Doesn’t build them.
