I was listening to Ken Miller, and it sounds like Lazard is getting a $40,000.00 signing bonus. He made it sound like UFA's usually get around 5-10k, so hopefully getting that much is a good sign on his chances of making the roster.

I've been asking a lot of questions about this today and I'm basically getting two different answers....

"He should fire his agent/hired the wrong agent."

"I have no idea. Stunned."

A lot of the above in different words.

The good news is that most people I've talked to believe Jacksonville is a great landing spot for Allen. The Jags did draft a receiver, DJ Chark (6-3, 187) in the second round. However if you look at Jacksonville's current roster (including Allen), Lazard is the biggest WR on it by 2 inches. Point is he's unique to the franchise, which should help him in the preseason.

Allen's a high character kid, hard worker. He will be fine. I truly believe that. I just hate that he had to sit through not getting drafted like that though. Really ruined what should have been one of the best days of his life.

Chris, what's your thoughts on the Colts taking a WR in the 5th and 6th round including a UNI receiver. I assume some questions were asked of Manning about Fountain (the UNI WR) as he saw him play first hand. Also being the TE coach i'm surprised he didn't lobby for a TE/WR hybrid in Allen.

In running for meltdown post of the year I think.

KO was taken in the 2nd round after being on a team that made waves by beating #2 late in the season.

Didn't seem to help with recruiting.

Team lost out the rest of the year with a head coach who apparently had no interest or ability to recruit well.
That's on Rhoads, not anything about whether wins help recruiting.

Was going more on the impact of a player getting drafted not having much impact on recruiting, but yeah, kind of the same thing...CPR actually recruited some nice players. It's just been recent that they were being used for their abilities.

ISU beat OSU in 2011, Osemele was drafted the next spring. CPR's stock was at an all time high that year. I don't think I'm missing sarcasm here, but maybe I am?

Was kind of thinking the same thing...I'd say 2013 was when things really started to turn (although the signs were there in an underwhelming 2012), but I'm not sure if he was even officially lame duck until the KState Collapse of 2015.

In 2011 I think people were actually worried that CPR might leave.

FWIW that's a very nice starting salary in a lot of professions, especially just out of college.

Jacksonville also guaranteed him that they wouldn’t sign any other WR free agents

It’s silly to make yourself a victim out of this. No one isn’t going to try and not draft the best fit for them just to screw Iowa State. I think I saw some guy drafted from Southeast Missouri State and I didn’t even know there was such a school. That player didn’t seem to suffer from not going to a known football school.
there was a guy drafted from ferris st., ncaa d2 school

Here's an article on why he went undrafted....

I guess those are somewhat fair concerns (except for the toughness questions. That's bunk. Find me a better and more willing blocker in this year's WR class, and he played through a lot of nicks and dings in his career).

The drops thing, I don't know. He did struggle at times but he was pretty consistent his senior year, and you could attibute his problems before that at least in part to the revolving door at QB.

I always thought he was more likely to drop a pass on target and catch a lot of crappy throws. Since Bortles gets so much criticism he should be perfect for him.
