IF iowa beats ISU, Iowa gets recruits because Iowa is awesome and ISU sucks.

If ISU beats Iowa, Iowa gets recruits because they want to help Iowa beat ISU in the future.

I mean after all, they're America's team.
If Iowa beats ISU, Iowa gets recruits because of some past success and a track record of putting people in the NFL.

If ISU beats Iowa, they get recruits because of an improving program and a passionate coach.

The point, again, I'm making is that the outcome of this game doesn't influence recruiting signifigantly.

I think that's a bad example. Barkley Hill went to Iowa because of the depth ISU had at running back and the inability of Iowa to keep a running back healthy and/or on the team. He didn't want to sit behind 4-5 running backs and redshirt at ISU when he saw an opportunity get a decent amount of snaps as a true freshman at Iowa.
I know that, Barkley didn't make a decision based on the Iowa ISU game but for other reasons, which shows that the impact this game has on recruiting is minimal.

Fortunately for the author that won't be a problem much longer. Imo they've sat on their hands over in IC and allowed us to catch up. Now they're gonna have to work there a***** off just to maintain. Their qb play has been in decline for years. Something incredibly drastic would need to happen at this point for them to reestablish superiority. I don't see it happening.

They had a couple of bad classes that are rearing their ugly head right nod, but they'll be a stronger team in the future.

I just reread what you wrote. I comprehended it wrong, my apologies. A long weekend of drinking has fried my brain.

Be honest about it, a very great many Iowa State fans feel exactly the same way about the Iowa State-Northern Iowa game. Now imagine that that game was every year, and we had to play UNI on the road every other year. I suspect at least a few ISU fans would be looking to have the series cancelled.

Almost every Hawkamaniac out there says the same old drool. It doesn't mean anything to them.....just another game they expect to win....they are more storied, they have the tradition, they have the better recruits.....self gratifying BS. The fact is they are worried that the evidence is contrary to their beliefs. It is slowly becoming more even in fan numbers. I know Iowa will probably always have more fans for a while, but they lose their dominance in the state, not to mention the BIG10 looking like a fossil league, they are in real jeopardy of being the 2nd most popular school in the state. ISU has a bigger enrollment, the season ticket sales have been climbing sharply in the last 5 years, and soon Jack Trice will have to bowl in an endzone to keep up with demand. This wears away at the 1980's, Hayden Fry image that most of them cling to like an old lady to a nickel machine at Prairie Meadows, they can't stand the fact that ISU is surging and their program is stagnant. Im sick of them saying it doesn't matter, they are scared and not just of the game this weekend. Yeah I said it...and I don't regret it.

That was brilliant, I lol'd, it's on par with "what's bugging Andy" whit. Are you Andy Fales?

I get really tired of seeing this faulty argument over and over again, usually by hawk fans.

1. ISU and Iowa are BOTH Division 1A (I still don't recognize the FBS/FCS crap) BCS conference schools. I admit that Iowa has more of a winning tradition than us, including playing in and winning BCS bowl games. But both schools are technically on the same "level".

2. ISU and UNI are NOT on the same "level". UNI is a Division 1AA program, so it would be quite different to expect ISU to play at their place, and the "no-win situation" argument has a little more merit.

The difference of course is that UNI isn't in the same division as us. If UNI was in the Pac-12 or something like that, it would make more sense.

I would not mind replacing Iowa on the schedule. Aren't they like in the bottom 3 or 4 of all opponents we face? Iowa will be the reason our SOS will end up #2 or #3 instead of #1.

I agree. If we could pick up another team like Tulsa to play instead of the hoks it would be a definite upgrade in our schedule. And you are correct, they are dragging down our SOS.

It would not surprise me if Iowa ends up being the 10th best team we face all year, ahead of only Kansas and Western Illinois. Time to drop Iowa from our schedule

Its funny that so many Iowa fans say that this isn't an important game to the Iowa players when it obvious that it is. Hayden Fry made a huge deal out of "securing the state" during this game. This is something we need to do to **** the football focus of the state to ISU. It started by winning 5 games in a row and hopefully we will continue it this year. I think we pull it out this year. We have the better football conference, once we start "securing the state" more and more HS school students will be interested in Iowa State instead of Iowa.
This is true. One of the guys I play football with said that if he was offered a scholarship to either school, he would choose ISU because they are a program on the rise. And he used to be a Hawk fan.

Iowa (aka hoks) also has more of a losing tradition than us, having held the longest non-winning season record for many many years before Hayden got there.
