hawk fans want him to step down if they lose a game

so... 4-6 losses a year means they hate him

tough being a coach for a group of fans that expect 13-0 NC's every year

The big question is whether Stoops or Barry Alvarez will their next coach. I hear both covet the job.

i think i already explained it has been a rough day for me thread wise. ("U.S. mens national team" thread that i thought was "U.S. Mutant Ninja Turtle") Long weekend of fighting crime(boozing/tailgating/exercising) has left my internets skills wanting. My apologies.

I would put serious money on the fans calling for Kirk's head when they become third best team in the state after losing to both ISU and UNI.

My God, I want this to happen so badly.
ISU win (no matter by 1 point, or 30 points, 30 points would be great, though)
UNI win

The fallout would be glorious.

Wow, I didnt plan on reading this whole thread but it was gold. One thing i would like to add is, while some Iowa fans are dumbasses who have never step foot on the actual campus side of town, and expect us to win every game, not all of us are like that.

I completely agree. The Iowa fans I work with are good people and are reasonable and they have fun with the rivalry (don't you dare tell them I said that).

The average fan around here is completely different though and hard to stomach.

Also fwiw I've already heard many people around here calling for Kirk's head if they lose to us and uni the meltdown will be crazy.

It's not even a dig against Iowa, our schedule is just that stacked almost every year
That has been a hurdle for the past decade, when more often than not, Iowa is the 3rd-4th easiest game. This year, Iowa could be the 2nd easiest game, although it would be close with Tulsa and KU.

I'd tend to agree, but IMO, SOS early in the season is worthless. Look no further than 2010, where having Texas on the schedule meant something completely different at the beginning of the year than it did at the end (5-7).

No doubt NIU will not have 7 losses in their conference.

C'mon guys... we are taking something written on "Rant Sports" by this ****** seriously?

20 bucks says the tie is a clip on...

Went to high school with him and he was a big dbag then. It appears that 10 years, enrolling at Iowa, and probably a few STDs later, his douchery has only increased.

One thing that hasn't increased is his writing ability. It was like I was reading one of his works of "journalism" in the school paper all over again.

one prediction if iowa wins...

Northern Illinois goes from being the "best defense they will face all year" to the worst team the minute the clock hits 0:00.

there is no logic with these types. Its just funny that games that you are "suppose" to win aren't enjoyable...so which games are enjoyable? the games that the other team believes to be the lose/lose for them? afterall from what we hear, iowa expects to win 9 games every year with the only "true competition" being Michigan/OhioState/Wisconsin...if 75% of your games are lose/lose and you are only winning half of those, your expectations are a bit out of whack...

I'm reasonably certain that when Tulsa had the ball, down 1 possession with lots of time, my anxiety level was very close to what it would be with Iowa in the same situation. Ergo, I look at Tulsa and Iowa in the same light.

This is an email a friend sent me some time ago. Although the names (and power teams) have changed, the concept is still valid:

Hawkeyes Announce 2008 Schedule
Sept. 17th, 2007
Iowa City, IA

The University of Iowa Athletic Department has released the 2008 football schedule, and it was a surprise to see Iowa will only play 3 teams next year:

Aug. 30 – Bye
Sept. 6 - Bye
Sept. 13 - Bye
Sept. 20 - Bye
Sept. 27 - Bye
Oct. 4 - @ Ohio St.
Oct. 11- Bye
Oct. 18 - Bye
Oct. 25 - @ Michigan
Nov. 1 - Bye
Nov. 8 - Penn St.
Nov. 15 - Bye
Nov. 22 – Bye

Gary Barta announced the change after the hawkeyes lost, again, to in-state rivals, the Iowa St. Cyclones. Barta, “Our great fans demanded that the Cyclones be removed from future schedules because the Hawkeyes had nothing to gain in national prominence by playing [the Cyclones].”

Barta went on to explain that after looking over the schedule there really weren't many teams that did give the Hawkeyes a chance to gain respect nationally. Iowa will only continue to play Penn St, Ohio St. and Michigan.

After being questioned about past losses to struggling Big 10 programs such as Indiana, Northwestern, and Minnesota. Barta explained that [the Hawkeyes] couldn't win those games because [Iowa] is every teams' “Super Bowl”, and those games don't mean as much to Iowa.

In related news... Ohio St, Michigan, and Penn St. look to end their series with Iowa as those schools have nothing to gain and everything to lose in national respect by playing the Hawkeyes.

".... I can’t ever remember thinking that Iowa was truly outmatched against against Iowa State. Even in down years, Iowa has a very good chance of winning...."

This is about the only thing I agree with. I only remember the 1978 game where Earl Bruce blew them out at 31-0. I certainly remember Hayden Fry blowing us out a number of times, but rarely are the Cyclones overwhelmingly favored.

I just wish we rack up a huge blow out.

Did I mention that I once had an affair with Morgan Fairchild?
