I gotta ask, what is the obsession with Jok by some fans? Because he's from WDM? Because at one point many years ago he was supposed to be better than Harrison Barnes? I know very little about him except that he scored a lot in high school. Maybe he turns into a great player in a few years, but he was not a big loss other than having to face him once/year.

I am not obsessed with him, but if there is local player that can help our team I want him. I think he is going to be a very good player. I base this on two things. 1. What I have seen with my own eyes. 2. Fred thought enough of him to recruit him until we quit due to the Lefty situation. I am also interested in how local kids do in college and beyond.

Would I want him over our 2013 freshman? No. Would I have taken him over Bluford? Yes. That said we will be fine without him. I just think he will be very good down the road for the Hawks.

Where did the top 10 thing come from? Is it just some message board chatter or did someone outside Haweyland actually say this?

ESPN's Dan Dakich wrote a story that Iowa could be a top 10 team this year. Miller and over half of hawkeyenation.com instantly jumped on it and they all think they're top ten or they'll be bummed out. I don't know why they aren't happy with just being projected as a tournament team after sucking for so long, but it's top ten or bust now.

If Iowa can go from NIT and getting blown out by Baylor to top 10 only adding Uthoff and Jok I guess ISU should start the year ranked consensus #1 if we sign Vaughn.

Pre-Knee injury.
And yes, I absolutely would take him over a couple players we currently have. But he appears to be a shell of his former self. Good shooter, but I have seen nothing from him that says he would take the ball hard to the rim or that he has much of his former athleticism to do it.

Wonderful question.

Bluford takes a scholly for 2 years and after that a better player than Jok will come in. Net win for Fred.

I just never understood why some ISU fans said they wish we could have Jok...I'm guessing it was the local aspect. Fran fell back on him after Hogue said no...Fred has made it clear he can recruit better than the talent Jok possesses, especially at guard.

Thanks for the background.

All you need to do is look at the Rashad Vaughn thread and see how much hype a "5 star recruit" builds.

Jok was never a 5 star recruit. I don't know how old he was when he got hurt but no relevant recruiting system ever wrote about him or ranked him before that.

Hawkeyenation.com would have you believe otherwise fellas. #1 player in the country 5 star.

Yeah they don't understand basketball and recruiting. If he was that good ISU would have offered before he got hurt just like we do to many other top players including in state kids at that age.

He may be starting soon. He is playing way better than the wholesome right way kids today.

Iowa with a thug transfer? Thug? One transfer - from Cedar Rapids? Which team is it that has been loading up on transfers every year, including jucos who were not eligible out of high school? Didn't 4 isu transfers leave school last spring without getting drafted, and without staying around to get a degree? Interesting.
