People......I absolutely think ISU will win this game. No doubt in my mind.

However, I also think Iowa is (AT THIS TIME) likely to be the best team ISU has faced so far. Definitely better than BYU. What made BYU particularly tough was that it was in Provo. I doubt many on here believe ISU would not have had an easier time with them if that game had been in Hilton. Better than Michigan at the time ISU played them. Michigan is missing 2 incredible guards from last year, plus their key big man was playing injured, as was ISU's.

Iowa plays up tempo for a big 10 team. Their ability to draw fouls concerns me because Ejim and Niang do not seemed to have learned to avoid them. Also, recently, like the last 3 games, they have begun to hit pretty well from the outside. In the ND game, they were 7 of 13 from behind the arc, and shot over 55 percent overall from the field.

ISU will win, imo. It will not be easy, imo. This is a match-up of two Top 25 teams, the first such match-up of this kind for both teams this year. I think it is great that both programs have gotten back to this level. It will make the winters much more enjoyable in Iowa.

As a side note.....the night before this game, the ISU/Iowa women match up in Hilton. If the game were played today, both of those teams are in the top 25 AP poll. By game time, both will likely be ranked in both polls. I hope ISU can draw a huge crowd for that night too. It's great to see so much good collegiate basketball in the state.

Iowa will change up their defenses just like they always do. They will play some 3/4 press and drop back into different zones and some man to man. Fran does a pretty good job of changing up defenses.

There is a lot of back and forth on Woodbury and I honestly don't think he plays more than 10 mins or so. Olaseni will get some pt because he's athletic enough and has been playing well offensively.

Michigan Wolverines vs. Iowa State Cyclones - Recap - November 17, 2013 - ESPN

Michigan may very well drop out of the rankings soon, but I'd be willing to bet they'll still be in the top 25 by the end of the season...

I also won't be surprised if BYU cracks the top 25 at some point as well. Both their losses were close to ranked teams. They play #21 UMASS on Saturday

Iowa State was not ranked when they played Michigan and BYU was not ranked when they played ISU.

Villanova was not ranked until after they played Iowa.

It's really a pretty easy concept. Iowa and ISU will be playing ranked teams for the first time this year, as ranked teams themselves.

I expect our "bigs" to have good games against Iowa. Last night they focused on the shooters for UND and their big guy went to town. If they don't help down low we are too quick inside and if they bring guard help we will bury them in threes. I still expect a good game because defensively we might get in foul trouble...we've seen it. They have soem guys on offense that could be a bit of a problem. I'm glad that Woodbury has gotten worse.

I'm willling to bet Iowa won't play a whole lot of man against ISU.

So they will be playing a similar style to what they played against Notre Dame? The style that left Notre Dame's shooters wide open on the perimeter and allowed them to shoot nearly 50% from 3-point range? The style that let a less then athletic post player for the Irish tear Iowa up in the paint to the tune of 29 points and 9 boards? The style that forced the Irish into only 7 turnovers?

Please tell me you are joking...

Iowa won with 10 more free throws. I know some were down the end, but an awful lot from Floppy White. Defense was very absent by both teams.

I have my fingers crossed that Marble will be matched up against Kane. We will see how good Marble can defend when Kane posts him up under the basket. Look for this as part of the ISU strategy. Get Marble in foul trouble and the only potentially explosive scorer on Iowa's team will be sitting on the bench watching.

Kane won't face many guards as big as Marble. I'm not sure that would be the wisest or most efficient plan of attack.

On a side note; has Kane dribbled with his left hand this year? I watched BYU and Auburn games and he drives to his right "every" time. He gets to the basket going right but I'm surprised teams aren't forcing him the other direction.

It's really a pretty simple concept.

He can go to his left as well. It just seems like he tends to go right because so far teams haven't had a guy capable of forcing him to do anything else.

I think Fran is a good coach, and Iowa is a good, deep team. And ISU will win by double digits.

I don't know about foul trouble but he does have a problem stinking the joint up from time to time.

Yes, because at the time it was played, they were both top 25 teams. Using your logic.....whatever ranking a team is now means nothing. If it only matters at the end of the season, then why even bother with rankings at all now until then? I said neither team had been involved in a Top 25 match-up yet this year, which is still true. No matter how good a team is, they are not Top 25 until the rankings say so.....theory or hunches or other opinions don't matter. The rankings are what says a team is Top 25 at any given time, nothing else.

I agree...from what I've seen Iowa has a really good Basketball team, so I'm not sure where all this 'Over-Confidence' is coming from. It eerily reminds me of our fanbase prior to the UNI Football game. Now....I personally believe that we have a more talented team, and that because we are playing at home we have an advantage. But I do believe that Iowa can cause some problems for us.

Do you guys forget that Niang fouled out in 17 minutes when we played frickin Auburn? What happens when he tries to defend woodbury? Do you think Fran's not going to watch that film and try to mimic exactly what Auburn did?

I also think that Iowa is very active in their zone defense, as the wings on the bottom of their 2-3 zone are very long. This may help them get hands in our faces when we are shooting 3's.

Our best bet is to continue being active passing the ball...which we've been VERY good at so far...but I can see a possibility where our team could get tight if we get behind early and start to force possessions. I've seen it happen for the last 3 years....I know it COULD happen again.

With all that being said, I think ISU wins by 5 on Friday.

Get beat by 29 points? Bold strategy Cotton!
