Well, considering this thread was started by an Iowa troll, and the other threads are started by one of your own (Clones21), it seems that Iowa fans want to bring the discussion here.

He's not an Iowa fan, he's just crazy.

I assume a most of the game Kane will be guarding Marble, Hogue will be on White, MT will be on Gissel, Ejim/Niang will be on Basabe/Woodbury. As an ISU fan, I am more than comfortable with each of those matchups.

Foul trouble could be an issue, but that is for every game. I'm gaining more and more confidence in the play of Naz, Monte, and Edozie. I think ISU possible depth concerns have been little overblown. Heck there was even a SDW and Percy sighting on Monday.

Interesting fact: ISU has 7 guys averaging over 20 minutes a game led by Hogue and Matt Thomas at 27.8 and 27.7 mpg.

Iowa only has 5 guys that average over 20 minutes per game led by Marble at 27.0, White at 25.2. The next highest is Gessle at 21.1

Maybe they have more "depth" as in more guys that all suck after Marble and White which is why none of them play very much. Where as we have 7 guys easily that are all key contributers that all play over 20 mpg. 6 of them play more than Iowa's third contributer Gessel.

My point is this "depth" is blown way out of proportion. They have White and Marble that are good, and 10 role players. If that is "depth", they can have it.

We have 7 guys that are good and contributers, plus 3 more that are role players. I'll take our contributers over their "depth"

- If Iowa wants to make it a high scoring game we'll win that game 9 times out of 10.
- Anyone who thinks Iowa is better than Wisconsin right now is ignoring what the two have done against quality opponents so far.
- Iowa isn't going to be causing mismatches for us, we will cause mismatches for them. If you think otherwise, you have ignored everything hoiball is about.

That is all.

ladies and gents i have to admit this game is scary, there is no doubt in my mind that the hawks will finish better then the michigan team that pushed us to the limits AT hilton with their stud seeing limited time. I think we have to shoot well, Iowa will sit there in their 2-3 zone and only shadow nazzy matty ice and maybe melv, we will have to knock down some shots because we wont be allowed to put goerge on the right block every time or have kane walk down and get good position. Iowa is very long idk how you can deny that lol but they are CLEARLY the ugliest team in college hoops. Who will our match ups be, if they go white marble uthoff basabe and gabe how will we guard that?

Lulz...

Iowa is going to have to play much better to have a chance in Ames. They play well in spurts but are very inconsistent offensively and often go long periods without scoring much. It hurt them against Nova in the 2nd half and again last night at the beginning of the 2nd half. I really thought Iowa's effort was poor last night and that they are capable of playing much better. They got outhustled a lot and defensively they were no where near as good as they can be.

I like that they finally went to a smaller lineup with Gesell, Marble, McCabe, Uthoff and White. That lineup still has plenty of length but they have 5 guys that can score in a variety of ways. There are some interesting matchups with ISU if they go man to man, but I would expect a lot of changing defenses.
Yeah, let them all play and Ejim and Hogue will get 15 rebounds a piece. People reference last year ignoring the fact that this ISU team is astronomically different. The defensive capabilities of this team is head and shoulders above last year. They can be streaky shooting but Iowa wont out muscle anyone in this game.

I think Iowa is better than Wisconsin right now...they seem to matchup really well in Iowa's favor. Last year Iowa won at home and lost basically in the last 30 secs in the Kohl Center and should have won that game.

Texas Tech beat Iowa State in Lubbock last year. Clearly they were a better team than us and finished higher in the conference. Same with TCU beating Kansas.

Just because you match up well with one team doesn't mean you're going to be the better team overall in the standings.

Yes, but I wouldnt stop there. I would just press the living shiz out of ISU because they need to create as many TO's as possible. By out physical I just mean play tighter defense than they are usually used to and hopefully get rid of the **** poor collapsing zone they ran last night.

The starting 5 for ISU pretty much handles the ball very well and Kane just gets the job done. ISU also pases the ball very well. If Iowa presses a lot look for them to give up a lot of easy buckets.

I'm not sure why some can't admit Iowa has a good team this year. It's going to be a hard fought game in Hilton and hopefully ISU can pull it out. If I were them I would let White and Marble take outside shots and take away the drive.

I agree...from what I've seen Iowa has a really good Basketball team, so I'm not sure where all this 'Over-Confidence' is coming from. It eerily reminds me of our fanbase prior to the UNI Football game. Now....I personally believe that we have a more talented team, and that because we are playing at home we have an advantage. But I do believe that Iowa can cause some problems for us.

Do you guys forget that Niang fouled out in 17 minutes when we played frickin Auburn? What happens when he tries to defend woodbury? Do you think Fran's not going to watch that film and try to mimic exactly what Auburn did?

I also think that Iowa is very active in their zone defense, as the wings on the bottom of their 2-3 zone are very long. This may help them get hands in our faces when we are shooting 3's.

Our best bet is to continue being active passing the ball...which we've been VERY good at so far...but I can see a possibility where our team could get tight if we get behind early and start to force possessions. I've seen it happen for the last 3 years....I know it COULD happen again.

With all that being said, I think ISU wins by 5 on Friday.

It's not that I don't think they are good it's just I think we are better. I think Michigan is better than Iowa and I fully expected us to beat them in Hilton. I just don't get how people think we have to get lucky or play great to win at home...we've beat better teams at home without shooting or playing well

WRT Iowa, their starters only had five fouls called on them against ND, while four ND starters had four fouls each. That better not happen in Hilton. They did let a slow big score 29 though.

From what I've seen I think Woodbury tries to defend himself out there

You mean the guy that averages an amazing 5 points a game Woodbury? I think he will manage.
You talk as if Fran will be the only coach preparing his players for the game. Last I checked, ISU had a pretty good coach. There is no way that Fred allows this team to lose to Iowa 2 years straight. No chance.

But don't forget how we can't win unless our 3's are falling on a given night...

I don't think Michigan is better than Iowa yet although they could be bc they have a lot of talent but right now I would say Iowa is just as good as Michigan.

Yeah if they play like they have been playing then Iowa is going down.

A friend asked if he could use my son's ticket for the game, darn nice of him. I told him even if I couldn't use the tickets I wouldn't give them to a Hawkeye fan and he isn't even an obnoxious Hawkeye fan. That brought up the question, how much would a Hawkeye fan have to give to give up my tickets to the game? For reference, section 233 row 10. I figure $100-$200/ticket would be my breaking point. Were is your breaking point?

Last year we beat Baylor at home going against their zone (and they had ridiculous length last year) and shot 4-24 from 3 and still won. WE DON'T LOSE AT HOME PEOPLE

.

Umm people act like Woodberry is the only 7 footer ISU has had to deal with the past 5 years. Look at how they have defended vs big guys the past few years, look at the results.
