Drake isn't lowly and there is no excuse for the Iowa game except that Craig is entirely to weak.

Agree, but that's not Craig's fault. Our whole team looks like they eat one meal a week. You can tell by the eye test that we have a crappy strength program for basketball - no one has any muscle. Yet GMac defended it on his show Monday night...

The secondary break is an offense. Just ask Roy Williams. Just because the teams didn't come down and hand the ball to a 5 foot 8 white point guard who held up a fist or tapped his head doesn't mean they weren't running an offense.

Iowa State fans hated the run and gun style and they hated the zone defense? Why I don't know. Because it is junk basketball as they call it? Guess what Junk basketball is basketball now. This isn't Milan, Indiana, we don't have Gary Thompson playing for us. Times have changed.

Iowa State fans didn't hate the run and gun style and zone defense...they hated the fact that there was a team playing it talented enough to shut down Kansas and beat Texas on the road, that never decided to give a solid effort on a consistant basis...that team that WON at Kansas and at Texas also lost on their home court to Colorado, and got 90plus points put on them by a UNI team that should've felt completely hounded by our quicker, longer players. You can't pick and choose when you are going to play hard...that difference between the lacksidaisical efforts those VERY talented teams gave and the effort our guys gave at Iowa last week can't even be compared.

but lowly Drake and Iowa with their second year coach and much younger team do?

Heemstra, Cox, Young, and Stanley are upperclassmen...our best four players are underclassmen who aren't even close to maximizing their potential...Iowa is about the same age as us for who's contributing and they certainly aren't 20points better than us, so that lies on our guys' shoulders and McD...Carver also made a difference...plus Iowa's players do not have the room to grow (not that they won't to an extent) that Garrett and Brackins do.

I've had the priveledge of conversing with coaches that are well respected and know MUCH more about the game of basketball than any of us, on more than a "hey (insert name here), what do you think of ISU?"...and there is a LOT more respect for McDermott as a coach, than Morgan.

You get the same response from the media and also from ex-players.

Morgan commands a lot of respect for his recruiting abilities. His coaching abilities, no so much.

What about them penetrating whenever it tickled their fancy?

Great penetrators and ball handlers like Jermaine Davis and Peterson are hard to stop.

Also, we imposed our will on UNI? Come on.

I couldn't agree more. I may only have a couple of posts around here but I have been an ISU fan since mid/late 80's (Rhodes goes for 54 vs Iowa!). When the run and gun style first came under Floyd I thought we had finally arrived. And to watch it continue under LE and WM was fun. But now it has died and so has our chances in the Big 12. We will never compete with this half court crap we have now. Just look at who is competing these days...I mean who the hell plays it anymore? And as far as recruiting, most of the kids coming up these days are accustomed to running...why come here to play on a team that wants to keep the score low where you will have a lesser chance to shine? I guess I have said enough and I know there are many out there who agree with me. We will forever finish behind the likes of Texas and KU unless this issue is addressed.

You lost ALL credibility when you said we played run and gun ball under Floyd...

Tony Bennett, Bo Ryan, and Tim Floyd play the so called "crap half court offense" you speak of and look to keep scores low...but who would want to play for them?

If you are going to play a run and gun style offense, then you have to have the better athletes to win. At ISU that's not going to be the case most of the time, including now compared to the rest of the Big 12. In that case the team needs to have a set offense and play better team defense.

Not while Pollard is AD (and I don't see him being gone anytime soon). If Pollard fires him, it makes him look bad. If Pollard fires him, it will be after McDermott has had 5 years to get all of his own players here. I think Pollard's job is pretty secure right now so I don't see it. While the products on the field aren't good by any means, losing your head football coach to Auburn won't hurt Pollard much. His improvements to Jack Trice, planned improvements to Hilton, and basketball practice facility hold a lot of weight. Additionally, most other sports are on the rise (see cross country, track & field, volleyball, etc.)

Good points! However, it is all about FB and MBB and so far the results have been poor for JP. Spin and make excuses all day about Wayne Morgan and Dan Mac, but FB and MBB have been terrrible under the reign of FP. McDermott is a class guy and may be good coach, but this is the big time and his recruiting is not big time, plus his style of play will not attract the players needed to get above .500 in the Big 12. The new hire in FB needs to be the right guy that wants to be at ISU, not some coordinator from a major program.

If we are going to lose in the conference, I would rather lose as run and gun. Just more fun than losing 64-57...

If you are going to settle into the half court you have to have strength, ball movement, and movement without the ball. We haven't done any of the three...

Floyd has been running a much more high tempo offense out in SoCal the last couple of years and Bennett orchestrates one of the better fast break and secondary breaks I have seen...
