Yeah, making adjustments based on who you are playing is just silly...no great coach would ever do that.

KG - lets talk a little basketball honestly here, I would like your opinion. I've heard Mac talk about UNI, Iowa and Drake going to the four guard offense against us and we are making substitutions to match up with them on that. We did go with a four guard line up...

Is the reason we are reacting because we don't have a post that offensively, other then Craig, that can offset his defensive liability with his offensive potential? When Craig can't create space...when we can't gaurd the ball...we are in trouble.

It just seems to me that the match up could become favorable to us on the offensive end. If we go big? I guess, I don't understand what you're asking on this line.

Did I say you shouldn't make adjustments? No.

My point is you make adjustments against KU, Duke, UCLA, UNC, etc. You should be imposing your will on teams like UNI because you are the dominant team from a skill and athleticism standpoint.

Do you think that KU or UNC would be spending a lot of time making adjustments against UNI? I doubt it.

yeah I do...do you think those teams work only on 'imposing their will'? Or do they try to identify ANY team's strengths and weaknesses and attack or negate those?

If we go big do you think that we could creat a big enough advantage on the offensive end to make it worth the liability on defense.

A zone defense might have helped on both sides of the ball. Allow JVB, who Mac said has never played man to man defense a chance to be in the game and not such a liability on defense but still allow him to take advantage of his size on the offensive side.

A zone defense might have helped on both sides of the ball. Two possessions into the game (I was there) I texted messaged a friend that we needed to go zone) Allow JVB, who Mac said has never played man to man defense a chance to be in the game and not such a liability on defense but still allow him to take advantage of his size on the offensive side.
Mac addressed it in his press conference and I have stated it before. Mac is very stubborn to go to zone because that is not what he is building towards.

Defensive struggles guarding the dribble have been horrible...A side from having poor rotation...Without naming names our lateral quickness is not very good with several gaurds.

I can see that, it's a valid point. I know Lucca, whether it's the knee or just who he is would probably struggle with the lateral movement. I don't know about Petey and Haluska. I don't see Diante having that.

A zone of Diante and Lee up top could be very imposing. Brackins, Thompson and JVB might be interesting. It won't happen but could be interesting.

I don't understand, not just from Mac, but from alot of people the dislike of the zone defense. Maybe not as the prefered defense but in times it can be of great benefit against matchups we will face in the Big 12.

It seems Haluska's defense has really regressed this year. Last year he would slide his feet, but this year when he is getting beat he just seems to chest bump the guy or reach... He has been a bit of a disappointment on both ends this year...

True I don't know about Petey not the quickest, but works his *** off and Haluska more of a physical defender. I don't see Diante having that. Maybe watch again..very quick straight ahead. Lee great on the ball...can't score. Wes...not bad, until it gets physical. Buckley had a couple bad practices, but I expect to see more of him. Boozer is not seeing much time because of his defense.

Our best offense and our best defense do not come with the same guys...we need to find a balance.

Dunno, ask the 05-06 LSU team.

Saw that one in person. That ended up being a very good LSU team (they were not "there" yet early in the season however). This is the first thing that popped into my mind when we hired McDermott. When will we see something positive like this happen at ISU?

Hopefully soon. I know everyone is tired of hearing it, but the player turnover has been the problem. If everyone this year stays, and some consistency is made, he will be able to succeed like that with them.

This is similar to the speed in our defensive football backfield under Cover Two. Coach was asking people to do something they could not do - like cover people.

In my opinion, one of the hallmarks of great coaches is that they play their game and force the other team to deal with it...they (and their teams) impose their will on the opposition.

We don't have the horses to do much dictating.
