if we finish with another losing season?
Not while Pollard is AD (and I don't see him being gone anytime soon). If Pollard fires him, it makes him look bad. If Pollard fires him, it will be after McDermott has had 5 years to get all of his own players here. I think Pollard's job is pretty secure right now so I don't see it. While the products on the field aren't good by any means, losing your head football coach to Auburn won't hurt Pollard much. His improvements to Jack Trice, planned improvements to Hilton, and basketball practice facility hold a lot of weight. Additionally, most other sports are on the rise (see cross country, track & field, volleyball, etc.)
if we finish with another losing season?
Yes, but as a previous poster says, Pollard won't fire him.
Pollard's job in question however......
why is pollards job in danger?
Pollard's job is not in jeopardy. I'd be willing to bet on it.
JP has done some good things financially, but the main job of an a.d. at most bcs schools is to hire and/or retain a good football coach (and to a lesser degree a basketball coach) and everything else falls in place. JP had no background in either football or men's basketball, and it has shown in his hires. Not giving Morgan a 4th year when he could have had the whole team returning was a major mistake, and not hiring Brian Kelly was another. We're paying a huge price for both of those mistakes with a two year run of probably the worst years in ISU football/basketball history. Auburn can take Gene if they want him because he's not a proven head coach, and nothing he's done at ISU indicates he will be anytime soon.
and not hiring Brian Kelly was another.
