I totally agree! Jackson is killing us this year! Yeah his no arch lazer 3-pointers are nice from time to time but he is such a defensive liability it's not even funny . Shayok will be such an upgrade!

He is not killing us he is just to easy to defend. There is one thing he can do, shot 3s, well and FTs. The problem is if you put a big body on him like Tech did he cannot get his shot up. The other problem is he cannot finish as the rim. Last years team was a better fit for him.

I will bet you money Talley contributes next year. He's a nice role player who has great length and runs the court well. Sure, he could definitely improve his shot, but he will still be utilized.
I don’t think we’ve figured out how to best utilize him, but Talley can be a significant contributor on a good team. He’s an athletic 6’7 or 6’8” with great length that can defend all over the court and handle like a combo guard. I feel as though he’s the type of asset you see an elite team have when watching the later rounds of the tournament.

Structurally though he adds a lot to this offense. We’d be almost entirely one dimensional as an offense without him. Is he still shooting 2FGs as well as Wigginton?

If I had to guess teams that will be a lock next year for the tourney: KU, Baylor, Texas and K-State. The rest have ?'s around the teams...

K-State is never a given. Texas who knows about them. Baylor has a long ways to go.

Young is definitely a huge loss for them, and Lattin is a decent big man. That said, they'll return some solid players and it looks like the #10 SF (#51 overall) 2018 recruit will end up there. They're trying hard to get the #5 PG as well.

Not buying WVU being down either. They'll return 3 double digit scorers (Konate will be a beast), 6 of their top 8 players, and bring in a pair of 4 stars.

We have no idea on OU, Young has not allowed other players to excel.

K-State has basically everyone coming back and will be a solid team. Texas they will have everyone come back, except Bamba and will have a deep team. Baylor has a solid core behind those guys and Scott Drew finds a way( made the tourney 9 out of the last 10).
KState has everyone coming back INCLUDING Weber. That could be the problem. Never been impressed with his coaching

What does that mean?

He can shoot, but I have a hard time seeing how he "adds a lot" to this offense. He's not a good passer, so even if teams have to devote a lot of attention to him coming off screens, he doesn't make them pay. He's also not a threat to get to the rim, and he's never developed a floater or pull up jumper, when it was obvious that he needed a go-to move for this season.

Are you suggesting that Jackson is more efficient from inside the arc than Wigginton? Are free throws included in that? Wigginton is also shooting a better percentage from 3.

Jackson is far from our biggest problem, but he doesn't add anything other than shooting. Getting a more well-rounded guy in the lineup should help next season. It's too bad we couldn't have Jackson in the McGee role next season. It would be a hell of a lot more fun for everyone.

Travis is kind of a ****. There’s been plenty of talk about shayok.

Agreed. Wasn't it just a couple of weeks ago they were discussing Shayok running the point for the scout team?

Also, what are coaches supposed to say? Leave the "development updates" to Fran. We know how accurate those are.

The thing to always remember is Travis thinks we are stupid for liking sports. He thinks he is better than that.

He's so detached and hip. Did you know he's from Minneapolis? Waaaaay cooler than Des Moines.

I'm a Prohm supporter, but that ain't saying much.

Oh and this thread is a great final insult to a crappy night. We lose 1 rotation player and have a proven P5 guard waiting to take his place that will have practiced with the team for over a year. NWB will have experience playing the point, as will LW as a result of his injury. Lard and Solo with another offseason of development? A healthy Talley from the get go? THT and some other really nice looking freshman coming in to fill various roles? Enough depth to handle injuries and adversity? I'm not saying we win 30 games and hang banners, but to say we won't be better is just wallowing in self pity after a rough game. Step away from the ledge.
I'll go one better. Don't step away from the ledge. Step OFF it and do us all a favor.

Are you one of those hammering the lack of shooting from Young or Lard?

It means his value is implicit. He isn’t “just a spot up shooter” enough imo. Getting a more well-rounded player will help on defense and rebounding, but in regards to making the offense better, adding redundancy can limit efficiency when that redundancy is in the form of needing the ball.

Prior to the TT game Wigginton was shooting more 2FGs while making them at the same rate. That’s not more efficient or effective offense, no matter how much we know Wigginton is better at taking it inside the 3P line. It actually tells you how inefficient Wigginton is playing inside the arc to be shooting anywhere near the same percentage as DJ on 2FGs, and the opportunity cost that goes with it.

I see your point final four and NWB will probably be fine until his knee starts hurting again and then we will be in trouble again.............CSP needs to recruit a true point guard who can play at the power 5 level.....

Wigginton will grow tremendously in his pg skills in the off season

Travis Hines so desperately wants the Cyclones to be bad year in and year out. I don’t put a lot of stock into him. Plus saying he hasn’t heard how Shayok has developed doesn’t really tell us anything at all. The staff has done nothing but praise Shayok.
Hines fetishes objective journalism to the extent that he sometimes comes off with a negative tone about the Cyclones. He doesn't show it, but just from a business standpoint he wants ISU to win, because happy fans are more likely to read articles. I think if he'd be the same for just about any team he was covering, even Wisconsin (his alma mater).
