Is there a bigger loser in conference realignment than Mizzou?

Really? Because Google Maps says that the trip from Sterling Heights, MI (where I live) to Davenport, IA (where my parents' live) takes 7 hours and 46 minutes. We typically leave around 10:00 a.m. Eastern and typically arrive around 5:00 p.m. Central. Guess what? That's 8 hours. Put another tally in the Google Maps win column...

Again, I go back to my primary point---this has nothing to do with geography...if you think so, you just haven't been paying attention. This is all about ego and $$$.

You are probably right, which is why Im shocked that they chose to go.

They left out of pure spite. Things were improving and stabilizing, had to have the spite.

Which is why it's pathetic and stupid there's a top story on espn.com right now that KU is the one ending the rivalry out of spite.

I soooooooooooooo want to give Mizzou another loss next week.

Time for me to be the grumpy old man--this what is wrong with society today. Try actually DRIVING to these places, as I have....google maps is nice for spying on your former girlfriend, but not too good for how long it actually takes to drive from point A to point B. When I was in school...yes, a million years ago...my fraternity brother and I drove from Columbia to Nashville in under 6 hours...just to watch ISU lose to Vandy during the Jim Criner era I might add.

Lol. Google maps is pretty accurate. You can beat it or it can take longer depending on traffic and your degree of violating the speed limit (or amount of stops you take), but its usually not bad.

Which I go back to my point that Mizzou will look absolutely foolish in this regard in a couple of years when the Big 12 renegotiates it's contract (because it's projected to be significantly larger than the SEC) while the SEC is locked into their TV contract for much longer than they want to be, considering the buyer's remorse on it now...

Wow! You're ignorance is amazing. When the SEC added Mizzou and aTm, they triggered an automatic renegotiation clause in their contract with ESPN. The new contract will be lucrative indeed.

Got links? Because everything I've heard says the SEC has to go to 16 to renegotiate.

Again, I'm not saying MIZZOU will regret this move over the long haul. But in the nearterm, they will be winners, at least financially.

Nope. Just going off of what the SEC office has put out there. Also, I believe the current contract is up in about a year, but I may be wrong on that one.

They may think their move to the SEC is a good move today, but in the next few years there may not be a team that regrets their move more. The Big 12 is showing signs that it will go to at least 12 teams, their tv contract will compete with that of the SEC, Mizzou loses their true hated rival in KU, the SEC is not a good cultural fit for them, .

Half the state still believes they belong to the Confederacy, so it's a decent fit to the SEC

They are the only Big 12 school I'll miss in realignment, but their fans are the losers. They'll miss MBB games with ISU, KU, K-St, Texas--and their fans will be completely detached with that conf in MBB

With that, I hope no Big 12 schedules them for any future athletic events.

The money in the SEC is going to be very similar to the money in the B12 three years from now. The difference in what Missouri will make there vs here is going to be very small. The B12 may even hold the advantage if there is a bidding war between ESPN and NBC.

In the end, the move was about ego and that is it. Missouri still felt it had egg on its face from the B10 fiasco of 2010. They wanted to show the world they were wanted so they left. Stupid choice, but whatever...the world goes on and the B12 goes on and will be more lucrative than ever.

Not exactly sure.
The Big East and Big XII are the only AQ conferences with contracts coming up soon. The SEC locked theirs in just in the last couple years.

Really? Are you serious? The SEC TV contract makes the Big XII contract look like Looney Toons? ESPN is all over the SEC in football and doesn't exactly kick them to the curb during Basketball season. Time to get out of the midwest.
We will not see Missouri much. It will be other SEC west teams like Auburn. That ios the downfall of having too many conference teams. The Alabamas and Ohio States are shown nationally as the marquee games. Missouri will be like a Mississippi State.

At the end of the day, I agree with you. I think the SEC contract will net MIZZOU about an additional 2-4 million/year over the Big XII deal, but not enough to justify the move by itself. As I have said previously, this was ego over logic.

People act like the money the university gets goes right into their own pockets. Or that it allows you to play with 12 guys in football, or it allows you to recruit aliens or something. The Big conferences have enough money now after all the contracts are done. If you make 22M vs 25M...who cares.

Be careful what you ask for Mizzou, you might just get it.

Please. Last year every SEC team had every game televised--even KY! If you are talking about local basic cable, then yes, I agree. Buy anyone with DirectTV, etc., will see every game.
