Is there such a thing as an intelligent conversation with a Hawk fan?

Every year, the same conversation. News Flash...the fan bases mirror each other for the most part. The same percentage of DB fans exist in both groups. The same percentages did not attend the school, live in a trailer, are professionals, are good fans, ect. I'm not sure why that is so hard for both sides to understand.

Don't get me wrong, I dislike isu with all my heart. Yet I can still have an intelligent conversation about the upcoming game, and it would be hypocritical to degrad you clone fans for something that is equally true of Hawk fans.

Based on people on this board and Hawkeye Nation, some always have the same obnoxious degrading manner. My guess is that they carry that into the office or checkout line conversation and make the entire fan base look bad. Yet, there are those who always have an intelligent realistic approach and it comes through also. Unfortuetly those of us that take that route are usually seen but not heard.

I mean you post something ignorant like this topic (as many clone fans have agreed) and then talk about Hawk fans not being able to have an intelligent conversation? There's the pot calling the kettle black.

Totally disagree about having the same percentage of DB fans. ISU hasn't had enough success to garner the DB bandwagon fans that iowa has.

I have never had one. If you have, please let me know. This is a journalism project I am working on.

No. It is not possible.

Try getting into a conversation with a squawk fan and a corn-shucker fan. I can't wait until they start playing each other every year so I can sit back and watch/listen to them berate each other.

I love the talk about how you cant be a real fan without going to the university of Iowa or Iowa St. Yet everyone that says this will also go out on sunday and cheer on the Packers or Bears ext. Im a colts fan but i never went to the University of the Colts.

Get my drift?

I must have missed something, when was The University of the Colts founded?

Loewdog. Have you ever been spit on for wearing a Hawk shirt? Because I was spit on 3 times in 2008 and did nothing to provoke it other than the fact that I was wearing ISU clothes.

I know a few hawk fans that I can have a somewhat objective conversation with and most of them actually attended Iowa. These fans however, comprise about 5-10% of the fans I know. The rest think that Iowa will go undefeated and win a national championship every year and if they don't its the refs fault. As far as ISU goes, they don't think ISU has ever won a game let alone beat the hawks. They also graduated from community college at the most.

Look, there is no denying that many cyclone fans have had unfortunate run-ins with hawk fans, but the people who think the d-bags make up even the majority of the fanbase are ludicrous. How many people on this site like to talk about how much better people in Iowa are than the rest of the country? Well, sad but true, the majority of Iowans cheer for the hawks, not the cyclones. That would mean that for the hawk fanbase to be as god awful as some would have you believe, the majority of the state would be complete douches.

There are tutors available if you need one...(a tutor is like a private teacher)

...and someone who is either really tough or really smart behind their screen name.:cute:

But rather than get into it with the genius that is kettle, explain this to me from the clone side:

Why is it bad to have fans that did not go to the school they cheer for? Obviously there are clone fans in this same boat...is there a caste system in cyclone nation where you tell those fans they are lesser than those of you who have a diploma from isu?

IMO...a bad fan is a bad fan regardless, and there are just as many from each side. It is naive to think there are not.

I can't even talk about isu at school without hearing "cyclones suck" or "who cares". I already have friends picking iowa to win 41-7

Where do people like you live?

I'm in DM and of the roughly first 40 Hawk fans I can think of, I would say 80% minimum went to Iowa. It could be my work environment, where there are very few people without a degree.

All I can think of is that people who think a majority of Hawk fans did not attend Iowa must be surrounded in general by people who do not have degrees...from Iowa or otherwise.

I would agree that there are more annoying Hawk fans than clone fans, but that is because there are more Hawk fans total. 5-10% of all fans are completely annoying...even those from the University of the Colts.

It is just a numbers thing. Every fan base has its idiots, since there are a lot more hawk fans there are obviously more idiots. If the population of Iowa is 3 million, and 70% are hawk fans, and 10% of both are idiots. That means 210,000 idiot hawk fans compared to 90,000 idiot clone fans. Since the hawks have been much more successful you probably need a factor of at least 1.5 to account for the true bandwagon fans.
So, we end up with 90,000 idiot clone fans and 315,000 idiot hawk fans.
