You guys kill me. You guys crush Iowa fan for drinking kool aid and then when clone fan doesn't you go all ape ****. Your Grinnell and Central comment is lame and sounds like a hawk fan comment. I never advocated going that far down. I want to see ISU win. Our chances just got worse.

The only shot we had at changing leagues and being more competitive long term, IMO, was the Big East. Even then, I don't buy it.

What's the biggest part of winning? Coaching. Why did ISU blow dog balls in the 80's and 90's? Because we had such fearless leaders like Jim Criner, Donnie Duncan, and Jim Walden. A good coach can bring in recruits to fit his system, and a good coach can beat more talented teams. We had good coaches in Earle Bruce and Johnny Majors, but we wouldn't pay them. We're willing AND able to pay coaches to stick around nowadays, and that is another big reason I think this move is going to benefit ISU.

I hope you're right. But I'm not drinking kool aid just because it's cardinal and gold. Fact is, nobody on this site knows if we could have made the Big East or MWC, and if we did what it could have meant to our program.

I think this is a better deal with a better chance to be competitive in football. Remember when McCarney started having success in football, what happened? His assistant coaches got better opportunities because we couldn't afford to pay them. With this situation, we can actually afford to pay them so we can keep guys like Herman and Burnham. I can't understand Steve's position of resigning to mediocracy. If we went to the MWC or Big East and has just a little success in football, Rhoades' assistants are gone and we're back in the position that we were before.

What chance did all of these mensas give ISU to beat Nebraska in Lincoln this year without our starting QB and RB?

I feel sorry for those that believe the past is the future. That is the mentality of losers. There appear to be a lot of those in the local media and Hawk fan base. There are even a few in our own fan base.

My Grinnell comment was lame. My bad on that.

I am drinking kool aid because I think ISU can win 6 games a year? Well serve that crap up then.

I want to see ISU win too. I just want to see them win MEANINGFUL games. I'm sorry but a win over Mizzou is worth 10 wins over Wyoming to me. If we drop down Iowa would in fact be our super bowl. No if's and's, or but's about it.

Why do you people listen to these clowns in the morning? ESPN is on 1700....it's better than two dopes who only care about Iowa and the Big 10....it's a joke. All they want to see is ISU fail!

Did you know there are more ISU grads living in Iowa than Iowa grads? Did you know that ISU and Iowa have won the same number of national football Championships? These are facts that the central Iowa media ignore. Chris Williams nailed it today with his statement that this is a great day for ISU. If you can not appreciate the situation, I fear you suffer from "Cyclone Syndrome" (expecting the negative). My biggest fear out of this whole deal is that the Hawks beat Nebraska. The media hysteria emanating from WHO/KNXO/DM Reg would be insufferable!

FYI.....the NCAA has never recognized a "National Champion" in D-1 football. Now you have the "BCS" champion, which is still not the NCAA championship.

In the past, you had polls, writers, etc. that named a mythical national champ. Iowa can legitimately lay claim to at least one "mythical" national championship: 1958 when they were awarded the Grantland Rice championship trophy by the Football Writers of America. This is more legitimate than the AP poll winner, LSU, because the AP voted on LSU before the bowl games....the Grantland Rice trophy was give AFTER the bowl games.

So no....ISU does NOT have the same number of mythical national championships as Iowa.

Agreed. I don't think the Big 12 is the best thing since sliced bread, but I think it sets us up better long term than the other rumored options.

There are things in place that give us a chance to compete that we didn't have in the past. I don't think I'm drinking the kool-aid, I'm just glad that we lived to fight another day, and this time we have some guns, as opposed to just throwing rocks.

Because the chances of you hearing about ISU on ESPN is slim to none.

Don't most teams play to the level of their competition? I think that's especially true with ISU.

Playing UT & OU every year forces us to "Bring it". we can't back down or let up. we need to elevate our game.

The deace rant this morning made me sick. Doesn't he get that we're in the relevant $$$ picture? Sure others like USC, UT, Florida will get more money. But increasing ours vs. dropping $$ by moving to MWC or CUSA keeps us from falling off.

We need to do more with less... just like the Eastern Iowa Community College in the 319.

You’re thinking of this way too simplistically. You’re options are, have a chance to compete in the Big 12, and make more money than we were making before, or:

Lose all of our current coaches and have severe financial trouble because of the debt we owe for facility expansion;

Lose ANY recruiting cache we have in Texas;

Have no guaranteed success of anything in a league like the MWC which could result in less revenue, less fan support, and possibly the same situation in regard to wins and losses;

ETCETERA.

I don’t get the notion that we move down and everything is gravy and the wins roll in. I like competing at the highest level. Regardless of where we go we’ll be an Ames, Iowa, in the middle of the country and be overshadowed by the Hawks. We will have absolutely no shot at any instate kid if we move down. We’ll be likely the 40th option for any Texas kid if we move down. The ONLY thing that is guaranteed by moving down is we’ll make less money and we’ll lose our coaches, who I am very happy with.

I don’t believe ISU can’t compete and win in this conference. I don’t believe ISU automatically starts winning in another one. In fact I think it gets harder to field a good team. I expect ISU to compete because I expect Jaime Pollard and whoever future AD is to hire good coaches. And I’m somebody who really believes in good coaches and their ability to overcome deficiencies in programs.

He's right for the most part. Our increase in funding is relative and we get an exponetially more difficult schedule. Previously, we were able to hide from Texas and OU every two years.....not the case now. no matter what people say and how tuff CPR is. these two games have been proven L's. I think we are like 5 - 67 against OU and 0 - 7 against UT.

I agree. I want W's, more money isn't going to make that happen when everyone else is getting more money as well. This new schedule is going to be brutal every year. Steve is right and some of you just don't want to accept it. I think once the newness of this deal wears off and people start looking a bit deeper at it, they'll see the same thing.

What would you have had ISU do?

Things Steve cannot see in the future.

1. Ramifications financially of moving down in conference (would have been devastating).
2. State of the South schools football. Do Tech/Okie State come back down? Do they become more beatable.
3. Positive effects of more TV exposure for ISU which would have been nil with a lesser conference.
4. The ceilings CPR and Fred can take the programs.

Whatever Steve.

The Drones have an instinctive hatred of ISU . . . maybe it's time for ISU to get its own Sports Network going . . both radio and TV? Deuce, Giggles, Joan . . . all the same.

Yeah, but I think it's a slippery slope. Would leaving UT and OU lose Texas and Oklahoma recruits? Would it matter? Also, do we know that we're not going to add two teams (or is this part of the terms to stregthen UT further)? Would the stress and strain (physically and financially) of travel make the BE bad fit for us? I know it's daunting but I still think sticking with the Big XII was the best option.

Here's an idea. Stop listening to KXNO. I have and don't plan on ever tuning to the station again. I will have 810, out of Kansas City, on all day today. Take KXNO's listeners away and crash their ratings. They will take notice when they have to less $ from advertisers and start losing them right and left.

Murph and Andy 'get it' as to why this is a good deal for ISU. They have been the most fair during the whole process.
