ISU-Kent State Postgame thread

Four things that must improve to beat Iowa.
1. Wraping guys up on D. There have been a lot of yards given up after contact by our D.
2. The RB has to hit a hole hard. JJ did OK when he was in there. Scales does great things but he is just half a step slow on hitting the hole. There were times the spot he was suppse to run to was blocked and another hole opened but he missed the opening.
3. Stupid personal fouls must end.
4. Get to the QB and bring him down. I would think Bolt will blizts a bit more this week. I think we only have blitzs a few times thus far this year.

I guess Jarvis had like 1500 some yards last year so he not that bad of a back. He sure hits the hole faster and harder than any ISU back since Ennis.
Just curious. For anyone who went to the game, how did ISU look size-wise and speed-wise compared to Kent State? Was there a noticable difference either way? Just wondering.
I know the game today was a win, but our game still needs to improve. Our run defense was sub par to say the least. Our ball pursuit is still getting better but there is no way a quarterback should break 5 tackles on one play (which he did). Our linebackers stepped up later in the game and made some plays. Offensively we made some calls that were in my opinion 'questionable'. Our setting up of plays was not existent, we ran a lot of plays that looked like we weren't thinking of what play we were goin to run next. But the offensive line was pretty good, and the running backs showed up to play tonight. Our QB's both had their moments where they looked like they were under classmen and they both had moments where they look all-Big 12. So overall next weeks game will be a good test of our 'big game' presense. We won these first 2 games because we played sub-par D1 schools. I hope next week we show and play a good 60 minutes and show the hawkeyes how iowa college football is played!
On my way back to the Twin Cities after the game I was listening to the post-game show on the radio. Did anyone bust a gut when Chiz was being interviewed and he referred to the Special Teams as "Special Forces". Haha it was hilarious! I guess he does come from a military family.
My thoughts on the game:
The offense is so much better than last year. Regardless of the ******** thats going on here in the forums, the offense is night and day better than last year.
Special Teams = onemeeeeeelion times better than last year. It is so nice to not have that sinking feeling in your gut whenever we kick a PAT, punt or we're returning.
Defense = I left the game with two bald spots on my head from where I tore out my hair due to the 6,000 tackles ISU missed on the QB and running-back. I swear, both of them danced so well in the backfield they could have been partners on Dancing with the Stars...and won.
Penalties. I think our more aggressive attitude on defense + having better skilled and conditioned athletes on that side of the ball are accounting for some of these overly-aggressive plays. The good thing is that we are hawking the ball and getting turnovers. Something I can't remember seeing since Tuba ran one back in the infamous tornado game against Colorado a few years back.
The crowd was awesome. I thought there were more people at the game or as many as our SDSU opener. However, at one point two guys a few rows behind me in section 20 nearly got into a fight. Clone on Clone crime is a damn shame.
Overall I'm tickled pink at what I'm seeing out of the Iowa State Football program right now. Certainly there are a lot of thing to work on, but at least this team seems to have a pulse and purpose. Something sorely lacking during the twilight of the DannyMac era.
I think we'll challenge for the North in a few years. No doubt about it ;P
