ISU possibly to CBI?

If an NIT invite was considered the "Not Important Tourney" five years ago by ISU fans....then being consistent and by using that measure the CBI should be considered the "Crappy Ball Invite". Which for some, I am sure will be just :jiggy:!
Amazing what has transpired in 5 years - fans' opinions of how an appearance in that tournament looks on their resume. Back then it was better than nothing and for all purposes a blight, now it's a reason as to why a coach should never have been fired and what our current teams should aspire to... :err:
Why don't we have every team that's not in the actual tourney play their own tournament? Then we won't keep score, give everyone a trophy, and we can all be winners.
Guys - your football team played in the bowl game equivalent to the CBI ... so why get angry about it?
I've spoken to the CBI and CIT this week so I know a little something about each.
1. The CBI is all about the bracket. They want to put together the best bracket possible and will take teams under .500. I would think a Big 12 team that beat No. 5 K St will be attractive but money is an issue. The CBI requires $60,000 min. per home game but they actually split the revenue 50/50. $60k is the min. the host pays. Geography comes into play so a central school like ISU will be attractive as well.
2. The CIT takes only non-BCS schools but they charge a flat fee of $31,500. They don't take teams under .500
I say keep playing - if nothing less for practicing for next year.

Agreed....take the practice time, build a little mo... Creighton vs ISU match up??
Oh course win a few games in the Big 12 Tourny...maybe the NIT is still in the board....given that we would have beat KSU, UT and Baylor to get to .500.
I agree.....sort of. The insight bowl picked way ahead of 11th in the conference which, in my mind makes it a little more of an accomplishment. On the grand scope of each sport I suppose they are equivalent however looking within our conference and our own expectations regarding each season the Insight bowl is a much much bigger achievement. I think if given the opportunity and it is somewhat lucrative or a breakeven we should play it.
We have to win three to get on the very edge of the bubble and hope that there aren't out-of-the blue conference champions.
Usually a BCS school is no lower than a #12 seed, so I would project NLT #13 seed versus the #15 seed. So we would have to meet Syracuse at a later game. We would have to beat a good team before we could play Wesley Snipes Johnson.

Some of you who are saying it would be an embarrassment need to get of your high horses and stop worrying about your selfs. The Fact is, it would be a great experience for this team to be able to keep playing and practicing and possibly could help build on their chemistry.
I wish there was no other tournament other than the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament. I am not a fan of the National Invitational Tournament (NIT) and the College Basketball Invitational (CBI) Tournament is even worse. I now come to find out that there is actually a fourth tournament – the CollegeInsider.com Tournament (CIT). If ISU does play in the CBI I will buy tickets and go to the games. I support the players and team no matter what. However, I will not be excited about it.
More than practice, it has some prestige
I've read lots of posts about how it would be nice to get the extra practice. I'm more interested in the prestige. OK, go ahead and take your shots about how minimal the prestige is. Then, think back to what a very big deal it was when Curtis Stinson played in Madison Square Garden. It was big for us to watch and big for New York City. I won't pretend that it is huge prestige, but winning any post-season tournament is much better than sitting at home. And I think it would be a good shot in the arm for our team to finish the season with some more wins. Of course, it could backfire if they don't do well in the tournament, but I think this team is much better than their record. If they get guys back for another year and we don't have the circus with other players, I could see us making a big dent in the Big 12!

Coach was asked about this (playing in CBI) after the Texas game and said something like "We're kinda banged up so I'm not sure it's a great idea".

I would say though that most teams are banged up at this point in the season. As a fan, I would like to go to the CBI, I know it's a joke of a tournament, but it would be nice to see the guys keep on playing and get some good practice time and if we did well some momentum going into next season.
That being said, the decision should be left up to the players and coaches, if they don't want to play or continue the season if they don't have the motivation for it, then let it be.

Yah, that comment was completely unnecessary... but what would you expect from a wannabe "shock jock" like him...
Some people have posted something like this, and others have also said it would be good to have the extra plaing time.
So my question is, do you play Brackins and Gilstrap even though they are going to be gone next year -- or do you sit them out and play other players who will be back next year so they can get more practice time for next year?
I admit it seems like a stupid question on the surface, but it is something to think about.
For a four year sitting at home team, who has not won in the Big 12 tornament with their coach, a CBI would be a chance to go have some fun. Now, if we are banged up, we still looked good against Texas. Surely we could be competitive.

TOTAL - 133 lucky dog teams (about 347 teams in bball)
Many teams have turned down offers in the last two tournaments. However, ISU mght have a chance to win more than 15 games if they change their minds!
