I missed the last part of the game. Maybe that is a good thing. I really felt like I was watching a Walden team - because the defense was so weak. The tackling was bad, the angles were bad, and coverage was bad. There was a DE that rushed upfield past the play about 6 times - just like Walden.
On offense, all we can do passing-wise is dink and dunk-no downfield passing. The defenses have a major advantage knowing we can't beat them long. The red zone penalties hurt us. I agree that Herman seems like GMAC - trying to run a complex system without the proper resources. The last thing I want to hear is give it time.
Our kicking game was good. Our coverages were ok. Did anyone notice that there was no blocking on the lead man on our punt returns? This may not be important, since we may not have another punt return this year.
Overall, I was extremely disappointed today. I was planning on buying tickets to a game this year, but no way am I going to drive 7 hours and spend hundreds of dollars watching crappy football.
What bothers me most is that we are getting worse, not better. Our recruiting hasn't been stellar this year. Defensively, we went all-in to stop the spread with short, quick, thin players - the problem is that more opposing teams are running smash mouth offenses and we don't have the ability to stop them with our lack of size. Offensively, we have to get 4 or 5 yards every play for 12 or more plays to get a touchdown. The probability of that happening is very low. One penalty, sack, missed block, or dropped pass and its time to bring on the punt unit.
