Holy cow. The guy is charged with third degree theft and some people on here are writing his obituary. CTE-suicidal? Opioid addict? Jesus people, stop spinning the rumor mill. The last thing this guy needs is pack of message-board psychoanalysts diagnosing his behavior.

While I agree, I think people are more concerned because this is out of character. If, say, it was Donnie Jennert, I don't think the reaction would be the same. It has more to do with this being pretty surprising coming from Jake Knott.

No one is ever going to jack IMO. They can't even tell you what dreaming is, how are they going to trace every single thing that contributes to CTE? That would decades of testing, and funding.

I had braces for 8 years. That's basically giving yourself a week of pain for every 4 weeks of being alive. They didn't give me pain killers, and I didn't complain. Doctors are too quick to give out medication, not just opiates(antibiotics, tranquilizers, etc.) They need to fix the pharmaceutical industry, but they won't because both sides are making ridiculous money.

Lol. Comong man.

Damn. That is just plain stupid. Stupid, Jake
You don't know what he is going through as many have said in comments above, this could just be more than what you classify as "stupid". Maybe the guy has really some bad mental issues resulting from his injuries from football and could be life threatening through depression etc. He needs help, not name calling.

If you understand addiction or CTE, it makes it easier to understand the behavior and be sympathetic to his situation.

When people are saying he's an opiate addict, they aren't saying he just decided to mainline heroin for ***** and giggles. He we all know how many injuries he played through at ISU, and it's very likely that he was prescribed some potent pain medication - most likely opiate based, as marijuana is still the devil - to get through it. He kept fighting this in the NFL. Almost anyone who spent that much time with a prescription to opioid based pain killers and that amount of physical pain would develop a dependence.

When the football thing dries up, he's still stuck with a physical addiction. Not because he's a bad person who made bad choices, but because he followed a medically prescribed regimen while pursuing his dream. But he's just as addicted as anyone else.

If you know anything about physical dependency, you know how hard it is to break this. His pattern of theft, especially items that are easily liquidated, backs up the numerous "insider" posts that claim this is a pain pill issue. Addicts justify a lot to keep things going.

Hopefully someone can help Jake. This story isn't unique, and it's heart breaking every time it happens.

Jesus, you aren't comparing the pain of braces to the pain of many football injuries are you?

The problem with a lot of opioid addicts is they have legit pain that requires the treatment. And either the pain never gets better or they become addicted.
I've passed multiple kidney stones, most without painkillers. Pain is pain. I'll take a few hours of nasty pain, over years of nagging pain.

Read the post directly before yours. You can pat yourself on the back all you want but most optiods addicts don't become addicted on purpose and most of thd time they are prescribed for legit pain which is probably worse than braces.

Not really related, but between reading the Baylor book, learning more about CTI, and the opioids addictions it makes me feel a bit bad enjoying and supporting football and college sports.

The opiod epidemic in this country is not really limited to football. It is everywhere and a huge problem. We don't know what is the matter with Jake but something is clearly wrong and the signs are there.

I don't understand the people who would rather stick their heads in the sand and pretend like nothing is wrong. An addict has to realize there is a problem and be willing to get help before they can get better.

So, I for one, will respect him even more if he does have an addition problem and is able to kick its ass like he kicked Iowa's ass.

So say your doctor prescribes it for you? Would you take it? Because that's probably what happened here.

Keep in mind this probably started 5+ years ago, before there was a real public knowledge of the crisis.
