I bet you couldn't find one major league scout that says Jeter is the best defensive shortstop in the AL. I think they showed on an ESPN game a couple of years ago that his D grades out as a 40 on the 20-80 scale.

Remember, the Gold Glove is a defensive award. So, even though his offensive numbers were down from previous years, defensively he was still an average at best SS.
