Jeter is just a winner. Think of all the clutch plays he makes in the field. Can you name another shortstop who has more clutchness than Jeter? I think not. Sometimes you just have to look past the statistics.

the first time you posted, i thought you forgot one of these :jimlad:...

Ok, lets see Jeter go to the Pirates next year. Will he be the "winner" that he is or will the Yankees and there 200 million dollar payroll be the "winner"

I don't get it he has the highest fielding pct (.989) and least amount of errors (6) at his position. His range might be limited but he doesn't screw up. Why the hate.

His UZR last year -4.7. He doesn't make many errors anymore because he can't get to a lot of balls. On the flip side, Alexei Ramirez had a UZR of 10.

Also errors are subject to the call of a scorekeeper, some of which can be quite pretty dang generous with the "hit" calls.

Mindless Yankee hate is very popular. If money bought championships they would win ever year instead of what once in the last eleven. Teams like the A's and Pirates amongst others make no effort to field a competitive team but pocket millions of their revenue share.

except when you are giving out an award that SHOULD be based on statistics.

Jeter is a hall of fame player. There is no doubt about it. But that does not change the fact that he should not have won the gold glove award this year. If you can not accept that, then fine, but there is nothing "mindless" about my argument.

I am not ripping him, he seems like a very nice person, probably one of the best in baseball but that does not change the fact that him winning the award takes all credibility out of it, not that there was a whole lot to begin with.

Remember, the Gold Glove is a defensive award. So, even though his offensive numbers were down from previous years, defensively he was still an outstanding SS.

That's such a simple minded view point, here's what qualities define a Gold Glove winner:

1. Clutch
2. Gritty
3. Lots of Heart
4. Winner
5. Good Looks
6. Scrappy
7. Leadership
8. Yankee Pride

Try measuring those with your fancy statistics. At the end of the day, it's pretty obvious who the winner should be, the Captain himself, Derek Jeter.

Whatever. I am done arguing about the SS with the worst range in the AL.

This post might be better than the one earlier today about the 9/11 conspiracy. So basically we should go with completely subjective criteria instead of fact based stats?

Cyjack looks past all logic and determines gold gloves should be awarded to how cute the player looks in his uniform :twitcy:
Jeter can't be reduced to statistics because every swing, every throw, comes to us laden with aura -- with some preternatural, supernatural composure that never fails to amaze us.

Look it's a good thing people like you guys don't vote for this award. The baseball writers who vote get it. Without a gritty, leader like The Captain out there, the Yankees would be lost defensively. Jeter's love of the game, and his great fundamentals just rub off on all his teammates. He just plays the game the right way.

Once again, what the HELL does any of this have to do with winning the Gold Glove award? Because you just seemed to skip over it last time:

The Rawlings Gold Glove Award, usually referred to as the Gold Glove, is the award given annually to the Major League Baseball players judged to have exhibited superior individual fielding performances at each fielding position in both the National League (NL) and the American League (AL), as voted by the managers and coaches in each league.
Rawlings Gold Glove Award - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Funny - in that entire description as to what the Gold Glove is awarded for, I see nothing about "gritty defensive leader" or "the Captain" or "His team being lost defensively out there" or "his love of the game". What I read from the definition is "best player exhibiting superior individual fielding performances."

Jeter is NOT the best defensive shortstop. Therefore he should not be winning the Gold Glove award. It's not a lifetime achievement award or a "team award" or "who has the greatest love of the game" award - it's an individual award for the best defensive shortstop, which Jeter is NOT. End of freaking discussion.

Once again - none of this has ANYTHING to do with the Gold Glove. Apparently I have to post what the award is again:

Has ANYTHING to do with winning a Gold Glove. Being the BEST DEFENSIVE PLAYER AT YOUR POSITION has EVERYTHING to do with it. Jeter is NOT the best shortstop in the AL anymore. But, apparently, since you think it's some lifetime achievement award. In other words, no, the sports writers didn't do the right thing, they ****** this thing up because "it's Jeter"...
