I'm from West Union and went to North Fayette, and I can guarantee the people he is staying with and the coaches are pushing him strongly toward Iowa. Still have to think if he has a chance to play at Alabama, Michigan, etc. it will be hard to turn down even with the strong push he is receiving from those around him

Not trying to be a smart-***, but how would the people he's staying with (family, whoever) and his high school coaches encouraging/pushing him to go to a specific school be a recruiting violation?

And I would still put the odds of him coming to Iowa at 50/50 at best. Kid has ability, hope he ends up at a place where he can develop it.

Fans can not recruit player, period. Now they may be trying to do what is best for the kid, but if they are also donating to the hawks or even season ticket holders, it would probably be a violation. I remember isu got in trouble because Julio m. Borrowed the family car from the isu fans he was living with.

If they were giving him money, clothes, paying parents rent, etc.... as a way to "encourage" him to Iowa or Alabama or whatever, then yes, you have a point.

If the coach is simply pushing one school because he/she likes it and thinks its the best fit for the student/athlete, thats not a recruiting violation. That happens at damn near every single high school in the U.S. Across many sports. It's why college coaches try to keep working relationships with coaches and administrators at high schools and pipeline areas.

I don't remember the exact details, but a "booster" includes anyone who has ever bought a season ticket. And boosters can't recruit.

a coach or parent(guardian) are explicitly excluded from being labeled as a booster.

And just about everybody else who cares about a team is labeled a booster by the regulations. Seriously, if you know someone who is considering a school for which you are a fan, it is very hard to be a fan and a friend without violating the letter of the booster laws.

Wasn't that Jiri Hubalek? The Czech not the Slovak. ...or did they both have that issue?

It was Hubalek. His guardians loaned him their car for an afternoon and got him a pair of jeans as a gift. Was incredibley stupid.

He's already changed his mind what, three or four time? This recruiting circus is just getting started.

Agreed. Its gotten nuts. Honestly, I just hope the kid finds the right path. Whether it be with us, or someone else, I just hope he finds his way. From the sounds of it, he might not have the best people surrounding him (family).

He has said this is it, and its final. And normally, id wouldnt trust a word out of his mouth, but Ferentz has been known to not accept a commitment from a kid until they are 100 ready, and not going to go on other visits. Im not saying he's saying no to four and five stars, just saying that if he didnt believe Juan, then I doubt he would have been so quick to accept. Probably would have told him to take his visits, and make sure. But then again, who knows, maybe he did say that and Juan said he was solid. Crazy crap, man...

yep read the rules hawkie

Please, please tell me youre kidding. Please.

If thats the case, why do they allow parents and coaches along on visits? Every. Single. One of your commits you guys have every gotten in the history of Every. Single. Sport has sought the opinion of their coach and/or parent. Now, if his coach said "Hey Juan, I'll give you $10,000 to go to Iowa", then yes, thats a violation, but if he says "Hey Juan, I think the academic support (or environment, or distance from home, or program, or coaches, or teammates) at Iowa would be the best for you" well, thats just an opinion.
