I was fine with the hire but watching that first season was probably as low as I've ever been as an ISU football fan. At least in the bad Chizik/CPR years you knew they'd be gone soon. I thought we were looking at the status quo for at least another 3-4 seasons.

I'd love to see someone find a bigger program 180 than that OU game.
Which one?

Kidding!

I know the one you speak of. :)

I remember most people being pretty positive.
Every time we struggle in the first game of the season...
I was fine with the hire, but I remember posting a few negative things after he lost his first game against UNI.

I was stunned when my good buddy from back home moved to Bloomington, IN and I learned that people out there don’t really think of Iowa as Midwest. They think the Midwest ends at the Mississippi and everything west is Great Plains or something like that.

I think if you’re on eastern time you aren’t Midwestern
HOW DARE YOU spout such malarkey!
You east coasters can just stay put and jump in your pond. !!

I wasn’t overly impressed with the hire, but he checked the boxes I was looking for in being a young guy with head coaching experience. I wasn’t thrilled with him bringing a lot of his staff along, but I figured if the head guy was good enough for us, his assistants were too. And honestly, at the time, getting to the level of being a good MAC team would be a step in the right direction.

I'm going to be skeptical of any hire we make. I remember thinking that it took us settling for a field goal try and then shanking it for Campbell to beat Rhoads.

I drank a big bottle of hater-ade after sitting in the stands watching CMC lose to UNI. I wondered how long it would take before we would see a new coach. I’m ashamed I judged him on one game at the time.

I’m so glad I was wrong and so glad JP isn’t asking me for my opinion on anything. We have the greatest coach in the country...and yes, somebody needs to get a CMC statue committee rolling!

Just the fiesta bowl. Not impressed. In all seriousness I was in school for some Rhoads drubbings in 15 degree weather and CMC has blown away my absolute hypothetical perception of what the ceiling was.

Admittedly, I was slightly pessimistic because I thought he may have rode the coat tails of Tim Beckman's turn-around at Toledo. But, by the middle of the first season, I saw 'closer' losses which gave me enthusiasm. And the rest (to date) is history.

Agreed. I am normally a jump up and down, run down the street and high five strangers kind of guy about a game like that. I remember just standing there. Completely and utterly stunned. I think it took me 3 or 4 days before it set in that we won down there. With a walk on QB.

That win was an absolute coaching and play calling gem and when I realized that I knew that staff was definitely for real.

I think I thought it was an okay hire at the time, but I think I was hoping for the guy at Memphis at the time, Justin Fuente, but I don’t think we even had a shot at him, everyone wanted him.

Google mapped Cleveland to New York and to Mississippi River. 98 Miles difference, big deal. That's a county block in Iowa isn't it? Or, the distance to nearest gas station?
Take it's easy there buddy, I worked down in new Philly for a few weeks. That is some backwater Hicksville stuff you can't find in Iowa.

I don't think I had an immediate opinion....but his presser seemed to show a confidence and directness (and given his age, I liked that)....and hearing the story about when he was here with Toledo and he walked the tailgate lots/called his wife was one of those things that made it seem to me "this guy is built different"
