You can't deny that since the cameras were installed traffic has slowed down to the speed limit finally and there has been a SIGNIFICANT reduction in accidents.

also can't deny that the city is making 4X what they told us they anticipated upon camera install ... and now they want another local option sales tax.

There are numbers for the profit from the cameras ... 3M at last count I think?

what are the numbers for accident reduction? or is it just anecdotal?

and for the record I haven't been ticketed yet.

the police lady was on the news awhile back and said at that time the low end ticket issued on 380 was for 11 over I believe.....if you cant keep it at 10 over and less especially when you know there are cameras you deserve a ticket

Do you really think they will do that ---- I am expecting some kind of mean and nasty letter first. We'll see.

My ex idiot roommate(Huge boise state fan, really long story of how he moved in with us, which I will share if you really want to know) said that he read something online that you don't have to pay it, so he doesn't. A month or so later they tack on an extra $100 fee, and threaten to put a warrant out if this doesn't get paid. His was in DM for running a red light.

I'm not denying they aren't making A LOT of money off of them but if people are KNOWINGLY breaking the law they deserve to get ticketed. Imo it's damn hard to not slow down now days as everyone as they approaches the camera slows down to around 60, so if you can't put the two together and open your eyes to see the speed limit signs, follow them and then to also see the sign that says it's photo enforced and everyone slowing down you deserve to get a ticket if not get your license taken away, your just being selfish and thinking your above the law and other safety. But that's my opinion.

I don't know the exact number of accidents pre cameras compared to now but I will research it or try contact the people I know at KCRG to see if they will do something on it.

Basically it's the law regardless of accidents or if you don't like the cameras the law is the law follow it or face the consequences.

Is that true? I haven't seen this information published anywhere.

I believe it's true, I don't have any stats as I just stated but will try and find some. Before the camera's it seemed like at least once a week there was an accident of some kind and usually a bad one. Compared to now you hear about those accidents a lot less frequently. It was quite common for the flow of traffic to be 65+ all the way through downtown with a good number of idiots going 70 or 80+ it was unsafe.

Since I first posted this, my wife and I (together) are up to FOUR $75 dollar tickets now here in CR --- Somehow we have got to learn to slow down. I'm not paying the last one just to see what happens next.

I'm no expert on cars, but, if I recall correctly, if you don't press down on the accelerator as hard, the car goes slower.

Don't pay the ticket if you plan on moving out of state (trust me, I was pre-law. Pre-med. Whatever). Otherwise, they'll just tack the fee (plus penalty) onto your car the next time you try to register it. Afterall, even the worst law enforcement agency has SCMODS.

I'll make another wild assumption that the CR police force didn't reduce any positions because of these camera's. If these are doing the police officers jobs than I assume they can get rid of some staff.

This is going to suck when they get to Des Moines. What's the latest on when they are going to add these to 235?

BTW-besides in bad weather, I can't remember the last time I've seen an accident on 235 and I drive it every day.

Good catch on Center Point and Collins, I missed that one.

The other one (1st and 10th) shows only tickets for 12 over (the speed limit is 30 there).

They like parking the mobile vehicle in construction and school zones and those are only 7 mph over as well. You can't see that in the database though.

You also can't deny that while the city has made 3M, the company that sold the city the cameras has made 1M.

I thought that I saw somewhere that CR set the limit to 5 mph over the speed limit. That should take care of any speedometer or calibration issues.
Thought 6 mph over on smaller roads and 11 over on 380. Just go to the database and you can tell at what speeds tickets start. What is aggravating is they are so lazy that half the money stays in New York or Florida instead of handling the collection process totally locally. It could make some jobs for some CR people.
