Just how good is NDSU?

Has any MAC team won 4 straight vs power 5 conf teams recently? I'd say they're comperable to a typical MAC champion team. Which is to say better than ISU, flirting with top 25 occasionally, but likely exposed if they were elivated
near top ten the same way an unbeaten MAC team typically is. To any ndsu trolls still lurking I mean that as a huge compliment given the scholarship differential.
Whoa - let's see how this year plays out for NDSU. Not convinced they're comparable to their previous three championship teams. They've lost too many coaches and players since last year.

Agree about this particular team but overall the past three years I think they're comperable to a MAC championship team. I'm a bit of a Sagarin nerd and that's pretty much where they've been there, slightly higher or lower but not much.

I would agree about the previous three years. I watched their game at K-State last year and that final drive to win was very, very impressive. Not a fluke win at all. Still interested to see what happens this year with all the changes up there.

In the first quarter, they came out with a passing attack. We did ok with our defense, but did better when we put in the d-line that can rush the passer. Once NDSU came out with their power run attack, we were awful. We didn't react. We got to our spot in the scheme, waited for the ball carrier, and NDSU easily found a defender and blocked them out of the way. We need to get to the spot and attack or read the play while getting to the spot and find a way to attack instead of being predictable and getting taken out of the play. This comes from game reps and making it second nature.
So based on how "basic" our defense is playing, I don't know if we have a good sample to go from. I think Vraa is a stud, but outside that, their passing game was not effective until they got the 80 yard TD run and we made calls for the run every down. If they can run into a defense that can stuff their run game, they will struggle.

Way up there
I said we were more athletic and talented, which is different than being better. They were better yesterday, hence they reason they won.

I can maybe see this argument for our offense but our defense, especially our LB's are much worse physically. I'm not sure we had even 1 big 12 caliber LB on the field Saturday. Meeks has some potential but to me he's more Jevohn Miller than Klein or Knott. Really disappointed with his athleticism and he played really "soft' (a la Miller). Ferch is a great story but he has no business playing LB in the big 12. I'm not giving up on this season at all but to me that was the most alarming thing, once they figured out they could run straight at our front 7, they took control. That doesn't bode well with Bill Snyder and Co up next. Snyder will run the ball every play if you let him.

No kidding. I yelled 'duck' as soon as I saw it go up and assumed we'd pick it off. Just terrible d backs.

Poor Sam Richardson got stuck in a really crappy situation. As soon as I saw the ball released I knew it was a reception. That kid had almost an entire foot on Sam. They sent Lynn in after that happened, and we didn't see anymore of it. I love Sam, and he is a good cover corner, but you can't expect him to win a jump ball against a 6'4'' receiver.

uni fans are talking down to NDSU? ha ha. ok.

NDSU would own the MAC. Remember in 2007 we beat MAC Champ 44-10 Central Michigan (they won a bowl game)

You talk about our linebackers not being Big 12 caliber, but they weren't playing a Big 12 team Saturday, they were playing NDSU. They didn't need to be Big 12 caliber to be successful, they needed to be the caliber of an upper level MAC opponent.

This is what I feared losing to NDSU. Winning against us will be all they talk about until they play UNI, I now hope they win that, but when you play in a meaningless conference or are 1AA these games against FBS are the season highlight. Super Bowl is way overused on this site, but it was just that for NDSU. Never anything to gain in these games for us but hey our AD has a 10 year contract with UNI now so that should be fun.

Superbowl is inaccurate. Happy we won against the "big boys"? Sure. But I don't ever travel to FBS games but I do travel to Frisco for Championship Games. Admittedly we will likely talk about beating you guys until we play Montana (Our next big OOC game this year). Weber St & Incarnate Word (who Baylor plays in coming years... so don't give us too much **** about scheduling them) are our OOC cupcakes and won't garner as much interest to the fans.

I think NDSU would be Top 60 in FBS. Wentz sold me. He was accurate and his timing was great. Showed an ability to run for first downs. He had a great throw across his body to the TE for a key 1st down. We really needed to pressure him, and I think their OL and ISU having to replace a FS that can cover with Syrie hurt our ability to blitz and put more pressure on him.

NDSU 2 votes in AP Poll today.

Yea I still think 50-60 is the spot for NDSU. I'd love to have 22 more scholarships and dominate the Mountain West!!

Enough of the small time thinking Lakes.... Big12 or bust!!*

*those of you who have missed out on mine and lakes discussion of this on bisonville need to know that he and I often disagree on when to move up to FBS. I know that we wouldn't get an invite to the Big 12 without going through MWC or MAC first.
