I want fans at the game that cheer on the team. Not a bunch of grumbling complainers. The Bitchers and the Moaners can stay home. Using your logic, the Cubs and the Red Sox should have had empty stadiums for decades.

You don't see a difference between these MLB franchises and ISU FB? Did you not notice that we have had an empty stadium very often in the last couple of decades?

What fans are you dealing with who do not cheer on ISU? I have never been to a game of any kind where the home team did not cheer for their team to do well. For anyone who cares about the FB program and values its success, it is hard not to complain about the mistakes this staff has made in recruiting and player development

You're right. All 50,000 fans at the WVU game last year made that such an awesome atmosphere.

Hey, if I am a recruit, why would I be worried about the fan support and atmosphere at the game? Instead, I would just look at paid attendance.

That probably isn't good advice to give for a stadium that averaged 40k fans per game last year and will hold 61k this season. Sports fanbases of "the few, the proud" generally find themselves in the Missouri Valley or D2. Fans have every right to be royally torked off at the downfall of the Paul Rhoads era, and you telling them to stay away is counterproductive.

THIS. I was all set to renew my tickets here at lunch, but read Stormin's post and decided not to.

To be honest, last fall was pretty normal for Iowa State Football in looking at the historical record of our program.

Not counting ties, historically ISU has won about 45% of its football games. Last fall was about 16%.

In 2000 ISU had a 9-3 record. And yet our PAID attendance.........not actual attendance figures........was 36,725 for our November 18 game against Kansas that year.

Wonder why?

No, I know why. ISU had a poor history of football success, which led to the low level of fan support you referenced. Its not a mystery. This is what happens when teams perform poorly on the field for long stretches of time.

It will be great for major concerts at night.

For those who are negative and complaining. Feel free to not support the team. Don't go to the games. But WHY is there the constant need to silence those who are optimistic and continue to support the team.

What is up with that? Better for all of you to be silent.

If you have actual reasons to be optimistic then please give them to us. I'd love to get excited for Cyclone football again, but I'm struggling to find anything at all and I'm sure many are in the same boat as me. If you know something we don't please share.

I am left wondering what most of you tell your children that participate in extra-curricular activities like sports. Do you tell them they suck and that they are wasting their time? If they suffer through losing seasons do you threaten to withdraw your emotional and financial support from them? Do you stay home from the games rather than wasting your money on admission and transportation for attending the games? Do you encourage other parents and community residents to withdraw their support from the teams?

Just wondering.

I'm just wondering if you honestly think this is a relavent comparison.

Just wondering.

No one is attacking optimistic fans. The only attacking of optimistic fans are the ones ripping people for not drinking the same Koolaid.

I agree with the first post. We all need to support our team and Coach Rhoads. We are going to turn it around next year and I can't wait to tailgate and sit in my season ticketed seat!

I admire your optimism. I'm just struggling to turn that corner, and I hate when other people question my fan loyalty after 3-9 and 2-10 football seasons consecutively.
