Keep in mind the last two games have been against two of the top defenses in college basketball. TTech was very impressive, especially in the first half. ISU has had 36 turnovers the last two games,

Gabe has stepped out of bounds 3 times the last two games, but really not unforced. It was against great defenses. He's 6'4" 200 lbs who can not be bullied

Of course the entire team has not shot well and committed 36 turnovers the last two games, against maybe the two best defenses in college basketball.
If he can’t be bullied, how the **** is he forced to be stepping out of bounds?
Those are unforced errors. Same with his botched layup. He’s been a liability on that end and it’s basicallyoffsetting his defense

Care to look at how many TOs we had in the game before these two?

I think the most important player is Grill, when he shoots with confidence (not rushing) his accuracy changes everything.

The botched layup was about the last straw for me. Yes, those things happen, but you have to count on your guys to make plays in crunch time. That could have easily put the game away if he makes it, and nearly cost the team the win.
IB made a great play to get him the ball, all he had to do was lay it in. To fumble that the way he did, just shows he's got the yips he has to figure out how to work through. If you watch a replay, IB was not subtle in his frustration either haha
I was encouraged when he hit a 3 early in the game but then regressed back again.

I think players stepping out of bounds on the sideline has a lot to do with moving back the 3 point line. Less room to maneuver when they start from behind the arc.

He has zero confidence on the offensive side of the ball. He started out hitting 2 shots last night so thought he would be ok, guess not. Something or someone is in his head.....

The worst type of players are players that think they are something they are not. He thinks he's a good shooter so he just won't stop shooting and missing. But he's just simply not a good shooter for the past 3 seasons. He progressively gets worse every season. I don't know why at some point the coaches say "hey Gabe let's try to get the ball to Kunc, and Grill since they are shooting it a lot better this season". When you're shooting 20% from 3 it's basically a turnover him shooting 3s most of the time. The guy is bad. I wish he wasn't, but he is.

We've have had issues with guys stepping out of bounds dating back to Will Clyburn and Matt Thomas.

I swear ISU's 2019-20 and 2020-21 teams set a D-1 record for it, based on per-game incidents. Not so much stepping on the line while in action (plenty of that, but it can happen), but having a foot on the line (sideline especially) before fielding a pass.

I don’t disagree with your points about regression. I’ve made several comments the last few weeks in regards to this when people referred to him as “in a slump”. It’s not a slump. If it is, it’s the longest in history.

that said, I do appreciate that he is at least not forcing his shots. A lot of wide open looks and some in good rhythm. If you’re a P5 guard you have to take those (with some exceptions for late game management type situations).

If you don’t, you’re telling current and every future opponent not to even guard it. Like you see with a big on the wing because they’re no threat to shoot. But you can’t let that happen if you’re a guard. Even if you’re ice cold you have to take the shot and at least make them close out on you.

The baseline ones in that last couple of games weren't so terribly bad. You could make the case that a couple where while closely guarded and the defensive player was riding that fine line between guiding him out of bounds and fouling him. The one in the last game where he was just running down the court in transition out of bounds and wasn't ready for the quick pass is the one that really bothered me. He wasn't even pressured that closely - why are you out of bounds at all?

IASTATE07 beat me to it. Matty Ice was crushed by CF posters for this.

There's no defending his shooting percentage, but I don't think he's shooting too much. Over the last 5 games, he's averaged 7 shots per game with a high of 9. He's taken very few bad shots (well-defended, early in the clock).

Getting it to Kunc and Grill seems like a great idea, except neither seems particularly good at getting open and Jaz seems seldom ready to shoot, even when he is open.

GK is doing what he's been instructed to do. I don't blame him. I hope he gets better in his overall offensive game. I hope the staff figues out more ways to put Kunc and Grill is scoring position more often.
