Kane and drawing fouls

Has anyone noticed that Kane has been getting to the rim a ton lately, but almost never getting foul calls? He seems to draw a lot of contact but the officials let it go almost every time. This isn't a thread to bag on refs it just seems like a trend I've noticed.

I say this because earlier in the year I think his ability to draw fouls at the hoop was big for us, and when we get to the tourney it could be a big help.

I'm just checking to see if it's just me or if anyone else had noticed that.

I agree. We need him to keep being aggressive and to keep getting to the rim. Maybe throw in a pump fake or something, but he is good at drawing the foul.

The topic of making free throws, on the other hand, can be saved for another thread.

I'm hoping for some fresh refs in the tourney and he starts to get those calls again.

I agree with this. He seems to draw a lot of contact relative to the amount of fouls that are called. Not saying it needs to be called every time but some of those have got to be fouls.

On the other hand, he and Hogue constantly talking to the refs about the no-calls probably doesn't help their case.

I've legitimately never seen someone get to the rim so much yet get the foul calls so little.

My theory, the refs know if they call that first one, they are going to have to call the next 20, because that is about how many times he gets all the way to the rim every game, and they don't want to do that, because they have planes to catch, more games to ref, and more money to make. Can't be having a 3 hour free throw fest now can they?

He gets screwed because he's strong and makes a lot of the shots despite the contact. Seems like refs this year are waiting for the shot to miss before blowing the whistle for a foul.

I've noticed the same. He gets to the rim and there appears to be a lot of contact, but rarely a whistle. The problem lately is it leaves him throwing up some wild shots and not getting any free throws. At that point, it is practically a turnover.

I've noticed that too. It doesn't seem like he hardly ever gets a call anymore.

Just did a quick analysis:

Games 1-17 Avg 4.8 ftm - 7.5 fta

Games 18-27 Avg 3.2 ftm - 5.3 fta

Not sure how many of these are end-of-game fouls, or driving to the hoop fouls, though.

Last night he was 0-0 for FTs.

Glad I'm not the only one noticing this.

The Texas game at Hilton almost seemed like the refs would wait to see if the shot went in and then who gets the rebound before they would blow the whistle. It was amazing.

I did notice Kane drew a foul in the 1st last night when he drove and had a nice dish (I think to Hogue) for a wide open look, only to have our made basket waived off for a on the floor call. That was about the only one he got.

I don't think he gets the calls because he looks out-of-control sometimes. I personally don't think he is out-of-control but you hear announcers mention every once in awhile.

Yep. Lately I think he is playing with this on mind, and putting more focus on putting it in the hoop because the fouls just aren't getting called.

At the beginning of the season he was doing very well drawing the and-1's. Toward the middle of the season, especially after the Oklahoma injury, he seemed to be driving more for the contact than the basket and the refs stopped giving him the whistles on top of which he was making fewer shots. In the last couple of games he's seemed to be going for the basket again and letting what contact occurs come. He's making more baskets and, I think, he'll start getting more whistles again if he keeps that up. If we want the refs to swallow the whistles on flopping we also have to accept that they swallow them for baiting.

I think he is strong that his body doesn't respond to contact as much as a lighter, weaker player's body would. When he doesn't get the call, however, I wish he would quit looking at the refs to complain rather than push ahead positively.

I'd rather he make the shot than get to the line if choosing between the two options, he's a lot better at making shots on the drive to the hoop than he is from the FT line.

He definitely has landed on the floor more than about anyone in the league.
