Bump it out to Top 4 seeds that didn't make the Sweet Sixteen (but "should" have per their seed) and actually include every one that has been a Top 4 seed since they started seeding in '85 and the numbers are obviously different. Of the teams that have been a Top 4 seed as many times as Iowa State (4) that failed to reach the Sweet Sixteen at a worse rate than Kansas' 9 of 26 (34.6%): New Mexico failed 4 of 4 (100%), Nova failed 6 of 8 (75%), Cincinnati failed 6 of 9 (66.7%) Stanford failed 5 of 8 (62.5%), Purdue failed 5 of 9 (55.6%), Illinois failed 6 of 11 (54.6%, Georgetown failed 6 of 12 (50%), Maryland failed 5 of 10 (50%), Pitt failed 5 of 10 (50%), Mizzou failed 3 of 6 (50%), Florida State. Iowa State, Tennessee and Virginia failed 2 of 4 (50%), Michigan failed 5 of 11 (45.5%), Arkansas and Wake Forest failed 3 of 7 (42.9%), St John's and UMass failed 2 of 5 (40%), Ohio State failed 5 of 13 times (35.7%) and Syracuse failed 6 of 17 (35.3%). The best of them is UConn at just 1 failure in 13 seasons as a Top 4 seed. Impressive.
Yet somehow Kansas ended up playing a 7 seed that finished the season ranked #12 in the nation, just three spots below them instead of a 7 seed in the "also receiving votes" category. The committee obviously gave the Big 12 too much credit for being good and Wichita State too much of a penalty for being in a bad conference. Find me one other team that entered the tourney ranked #12 or better than got less than even a 5 seed.
I was just about to say that at least ISU fans fresh off a first round exit as a #3 seed wouldn't be inclined to dump on teams that didn't lose in the first round but I guess I was wrong as well. It's just a conversation, I'm not bad mouthing anyone or defending Kansas. Just thought I'd do some research into it myself, include not just a selected few schools and see how the Top 4 seeds stacked up.
You mean getting spanked by little brother (that they refuse to play) on national TV is bad? Losing to WSU and KSU in the same year. I wouldn't say they are the worst team in the state, only because Emporia State hasn't had a shot at them.
How on earth is losing to that Wichita State team worse than losing to UAB? UAB finished fifth in Conference USA and only made the field by pulling a huge upset in their conference tourney. The possibility of them making field without that was 0%. Wichita State was ranked four spots behind KU at the end of the year. That's not a bad loss. If it is then ISU should consider losses to Baylor or Oklahoma a bad loss. It's a bummer that KU pulled them as their #7 seed and had to play a team that good this early in the tourney but sometimes luck doesn't go your way.
