Thats the point, without the 4-5 stars you HAVE to coach. I don't remember any of these teams in the final 4 with Self.

Are you serious?

Don't let your irrational hate for ku delude you into making such idiotic statements.

Bill Self has proven himself over and over. You don't get a job like Kansas unless your damn good at what you do.

Plus, he went to THREE Elite 8's in a five year period at three different schools. The guy is an outstanding coach.

Just stop, you are embarrassing the image of Iowa State being a knowledgeable fanbase.

Go to the final 4 with 3 star guys and then I'll tip my hat to these guys who have and always will get the 4-5 stars. Players go to the school with the reputation and when you have 3,4 5 of them each year you damn well better win championships.

He went to the Elite 8 with TULSA....You were probably one of the morons that thought that chewey going to the ncaa, and losing in the first round made him a "great coach." This guy has had a ton of success. It is no coincidence that they are putting tons of guys in the NBA, because he gets great players, and makes them even better.

Please stop, I am getting embarrassed for you.....

Well, then you are calling your fellow KU fans idiots, idiot.

Go ahead and tell the KU fans that were disappointed in the 2008-2009 season that they're idiots. And then maybe look above your bathroom sink and tell that person, too.

That 2009 Kansas team was expected to barely be in tourny... and got a 3 seed.... and won the Big 12 title. They only beat NDSU by 10 because there was 30k NDSU fans in the Metrodome (I was there). They then dismantled Dayton in the next game and lost a heartbreaker to the eventual national runner-up. Bill Self is a flat-out winner.

I expect KU to be just fine next year based on what I saw from that Kansas team.

Not sure how you conclude that. That 2009 KU team had alot more highly regarded recruits than what is on their current projected roster for next season.

If you're trotting out T-Rob, Withey, Taylor, E.Johnson, and Releford as your starting line-up next season, you aren't winning the conference and it may be a challenge getting to the NCAAs with that crew.

All five of those players are juniors or seniors who were top 50 recruits. If they have trouble getting to the NCAAs, it will take one hell of a collapse.

This is echoing many of the comments in this thread, but I've come to realize: if you want to bet safe money on a Big 12 title, bet on KU — whether it's "a down year" or not.

Oh, yes, Kansas could slip next season, down to levels of, say, 1999-00 — when the Jayhawks earned a lowly 8 seed in the tournament (I hate to quash my own memories of sweeping KU that year and the next, and winning 5 straight in the series over 3 seasons — but, yeah).

Who will dethrone Kansas in 2011-12? Texas is always a possibility — the overall worth of that will come home to roost sometime during the NCAA tournament's second weekend. Unless Kansas dips into the lower-half of the standings, I don't think it'll be a big deal.

No matter what, gaining at least a split w/ Kansas would be a welcome change. But what if Kansas falls into temporary NIT territory for one season? Beating a powerhouse is always fun, but it wouldn't elevate ISU's program. (Note: I'll take wins and worry about the "meaning" of it, of course — just trying to put some perspective on it).

people always make the mistake of looking at who is leaving rather than who is returning. ku has more talented, experienced players than anyone else in the big 12. and really, no one other than baylor is even close.

they don't have the depth that they've had in the past, but a starting five of all top 50/100 recruits, all in their 3rd or 4th years.... ku should be prohibitive favorites to win the league.

Top 50 recruit coming back for his senior year in college = not really that good

.....and none of those guys have given any indication that are now or capable of being consistent Top 50 players for their class.

Well, only one player is a senior and that is Tyshawn Taylor, and if he plays like he did at the end of the season then he will have a chance to get drafted. So I wouldn't say he is not that good. As far as the other projected starters, I would say Robinson has proved that he is consistently productive. Withey is another potential professional player, he just has to stay healthy. I remember two years ago at the game at Hilton when Withey came in for Aldrich and played pretty well against us as a freshman.

Until proven otherwise, I'll always assume that KU wins the B12 in BB and Ohio State wins the B10 in football. Those two things happen far more often than not, regardless of how many spots they have to fill.

KU will not have the depth of the past. If they have some injuries or foul trouble it will be a down year. They also won't be near as good offensively. But the twins guarded nobody all year so I wouldn't be surprised if they are a much better defensive team. I think Robinson's going to be a beast and look for him to have a huge year. Plus Taylor finally started understanding his role and played great at the end of the year and EJ is one of the best athletes KU has had so it's a matter of him maturing. Releford is going to surprise a lot of people. The key to KU's season will be Withey, and that's where I think KU will be hurting.

I think that is a good assesment. You are right they will probably be a better defensive team this year without the Morris Twins but will struggle more on offense. Their biggest question marks are wether Withey can stay healthy and contribute and who is going to knock down outside shots?
