Matt P demonstrated his historic ignorance by repeating that OLD standard HAWK line, "Iowa has nothing to gain by playing ISU nationally . . . because it's ISU's SUPER BOWL." Way to go Giggles! You are a genius.

BTW, let me help you . . PLEASE do not go to the Iowa/ISU Saturday . . do us all a favor for once and stay in your apartment flipping channels.

I'm sure he'll be on here in a few hours.

If this game really means NOTHING to hawk fans, I can only assume there will be NO smack talk of any kind and if they win, they won't rub it in because it will be "just another win."

Regardless of your opinion on the future of the series, the assertion that the game isn't special to both sides is simply ludicrous.

If it didn't matter to them, they wouldn't talk about it. I don't hear people on the radio bashing the Hawkeyes left and right, making fun of how many tickets they'll sell to their opener. If any of what they say were true, you'd hear the same of UNI and Drake also.

Gotta love dumb people saying dumb things.

I almost feel sorry for him.. I'm starting to get the feeling he actually believes the things he says.

It is our Super Bowl. We need this game to enjoy football.

I cant imagine how horrible it would be to start scheduling games with another nearby Big 10 school/Arkansas/Kentucky/Lousiville etc.

Uh, no it's not.

It may be your "Super Bowl", so speak for yourself.

Assuming you meant one of :jimlad: in there Agreed. Personally id rather have Minnesota on our schedule than iowa. Better fans, better city and stadium for the road game. I'd love to have the chance to go see a game in TCF every other year, but i have no desire whatsoever to go into iowa city.

What's new? Matt made another attempt at completely rendering his career inept and here we are to keep it going. He says things to spark banter and drive ratings. Why further the debate by wondering why he is the way he is. I'm sure he'll thank you for listening too.

You do realize the only reason Hawk fans "don't want this game anymore..." or "call it our super bowl..." is because it's become a rivalry again, and gosh-darnit, they just might lose!
They don't have the sure victory anymore. Back during their glory years, every Hawk fan and his dog was in favor of the game. But ever since ISU has turned things around here and there, you hear this crap.

I agree. The twin cities would be a much better location than IC. And considering IC's traffic problem, it may be a faster drive.

Watching KCCI at 6:00. They were interviewing some hawk player (don't recall who). He has a better grasp on it than most fans. Said himself that "some like to make it out to be that it means more to them than us." Went on to disagree with that sentiment and that Iowa football has plenty of quotes and bulletin board material that makes the game meaningful

Maybe they have it in their website.

Anyway... refreshing and straight from the team.

Exactly. This is why they don't even speak of Iowa basketball now and no one heard anything about Iowa wrestling during the Zalesky years. While they do have a good amount of loyal fans, they have a lot of bandwagon fans (which seem to be the most vocal). I will guarantee that 90% of the bumper stickers you see now weren't there during Kirk's first few years.

This "Super Bowl" bashing at ISU is ridiculous. I remember when I moved to Iowa initially, and the hype before the game (as an Iowa fan at the time) was that everyone was excited for the Iowa/ISU game because it was the Iowan's version of the "Super Bowl".

Somehow, when the Hawks got back to national respectability (and I do use the term "respect" loosely), the rivalry is like dirty laundry to them.

If the U of I and/or its fans want to ***** and moan about how playing ISU "does nothing for them nationally", then they may want to reexamine their schedule and find out who's matching them up against such powerhouses of the past five years like Maine, Eastern Illinois, Florida International, Montana, Syracuse, Arkansas State, and Ball State.

And don't forget UNI last year. Granted, they are a solid program, but beating them does nothing for Iowa -- why schedule them if they pose a threat, right? If they beat you, it's massively negative press for Iowa, and if you beat them, well, so what, you were supposed to beat them, right?

This is par for the course with Hawk fans. They always talk the big talk of -we should and are national title contenders...we might win it all this year. However a few weeks ago they were all upset because they didn't want to be in the "Tough" side of the Big 10 division, they dont want to play us anymore because we dont roll over like we used to for them. And they always say well ISU has nothing to lose, but we have national title intentions this year, well if ISU beats you

1. You werent a national title contender probably
2. You actually bought your own hype and it sucks eating it all year long

If your a national title team, you shouldn't be scared of ISU or any team...you should be saying bring it on!!! But they are just happy now that they play Purdue every year and they aren't in their big brothers eerrr Ohio State's bracket of the division...go get em' hawks.
