No, it did not at all. I can think of a few gambles CPR took after that game. Many onside kicks, fake punts, etc.
I wil have you know I have coached many a 5th grade football and basketball team to .500 records!
I thought that Rhoad's sitting on the ball, at the end of the 1st half, was and indication that he was trying to win the game. We were getting badly beaten and worn down. We needed to rest and regroup for the 2nd half. We came out fired up and scored. Then the onside kick was saying, we are not quitting. Here we come.
Unfortunately, we were over matched, but not outworked. I think the coaches did as well as could be done.

Ten yard out routes? Come on, man, you know those are against the rules. That's gotta be the reason why we don't have those routes in our playbook, right? Right?
Leave it all out on the field. ISU was down by 28, show some confidence in your offense and try to get some points. There was very little risk in that situation. Even if the 1% happens and Baylor gets another touchdown big deal- not much difference between 42-7 and 35-7.
I don't have a huge issue with the onside kick, but didn't agree with the call. Rhoads has tried that play a handful of times, so I expect Baylor was looking for an onside kick. I would rather have us kicked it deep and tried to get a stop and a TD to get the score within 35-21.
Likewise on defense, we used press coverage maybe 10-15% of the time. I wish Wally would have gotten more agressive and had our dbs within 5 yards of the line a lot more. The spread is a timing offense, and if we sit 7-10 yards off- we are going to give up 40 plus points to OSU,OU, TT and WVU.

I guess technically by the way they keep the stats it was a drive but to me 2 plays and 4 yards is not a drive, it's just a 49 second possession. No more of a "drive" than the six "three and outs" we had in the first half.

Pollard is NOW paying him to "improve" from yesterday, from last year. CPR's effort is to always show improvement. As long as he sells Pollard that he is doing that, he will meet his goals and keep his job.
I vote to either try running it to try a field goal, or sit on it and go back in to get the players settled down. It went from being a 14-7 game to 35-7 real quick, and I see no point in putting the players in a position to let things unravel further. The unraveling, to begin with, has roots far deeper than just a few bad breaks, but I'm OK with the decision for the time being.
That was my biggest problem and why I left the game. I would have stayed had they tried to score on that possession that was a pathetic excuse of football. If baylor was up 38 pts and had the ball with 30 seconds left until halftime they would have tried to score. It was very weak, and chicken.
