Lazard will be the greatest receiver in ISU history...that much is pretty clear.

Which is the same thing everyone was saying about Todd Blythe his freshman yr. Lazard isn't even on pace for Blythe's freshman yr, I don't believe. I think he is awesome and actually agree with you, but 4 yrs is a long time. His blocking is what really impresses me. Kid is a baller.

Keep in mind Blythe redshirted his first year at ISU.

Had you told me QB and West were injured (plus a couple others) and it would not have sounded crazy. I don't think he is at the go-to level yet anyways.

It is incredibly disappointing that we will not get to see what Mangino could have done with a healthy group. Bundrage, West, Harris to go with the big guys of Lazard, Montgomery, Bibbs, plus our receiver like backs. Once we gave up on establishing balance, Sam would set a lot of records.
I'd say he's pretty close anyway. He's had quite a few big catches on 3rd downs.

One difference, Blythe redshirted, so it isn't totally apples to apples. I do think that Blythe had a little better straight line speed than Lazard. They both have great hands and adjust to the ball well. Lazard is probably a little quicker in and out of cuts, which makes for better route running. Lazard is going to have to knock a couple tenths off his 40 time if he's going to get drafted someday.

lets hope Mangino sticks around you can see the offense getting better each game

I agree. The single biggest factor in this teams success next season IMO is MM staying. He is 60yrs old so I'm not sure a lot of teams would roll the dice on someone of that age and possible health.

Well. If he doesn't stick around, we'll be re-rebuilding.

All I was basically saying with the comparison is let's not get our expectations too high too early. I think he is going to continue to be great but Blythe's best yr was pretty much his freshman yr. hopefully the QB play elevates while he is here

this...AL doesn't have the speed to come close to being NFL right now. Why do u think Blythe never made a team? And daniel son did? Speed. AL is either going to need to put on 20-30 lbs(which he easily could) and be a great TE prospect or stay were he is and go from a 4.7-4-8/40 to 4.5...and that's a big jump. Although he's only a freshman. Will be interesting to see what happens in offseason as I can see him getting bigger and being 230 next year.

blythe was one of the best one handed catchers I've seen in a long time, dude made some incredible plays.

next year is going to be awesome to watch with SR coming back another year with all those weapons.

Check out Mel Kiper!!

Lazard could take a tenth off and be in a good position to get a long look if he shows decent improvement. I will say this, all the greatest ISU receivers in history played in the last 10 years.

Throw the speed of Josh Lenz in the equation also....

This. If Lazard improves in other areas and puts on maybe another 10-15 pounds, a 4.6 would be more than good enough to get drafted.

When he develops physically, he's going to be an absolute beast. My only knock on him so far is, that more physical, experienced corners have pushed him around a bit (Baylor and Okie St seemed to really go after him). I'll say he's better, faster than I expected. We've got ourselves a great one, with the numbers offenses put up today, AL will rewrite ISU's receiving record books.

I didn't see how AL could live up to half the hype he was getting, but by God, he's done it.

3 more years . . .

With weight gain, he'll get more explosive and thus faster. I don't like the Blythe comparisons for AL. Nothing against Blythe bc he was a beast in the red zone but speed wasn't the only factor keeping him out of the NFL. He struggled with route running, making plays after the catch and going over the middle to make plays. Sure he lacked speed but he could've made up for it doing things like a guy you mentioned, Lane Danielson, he's a great example of a guy who wasn't the biggest, fastest, etc but ran great routes, was a great blocker, made the tough catches and turned short gains into bigger ones.

If AL doesn't get an NFL look it will be bc of not being fundamentally and technically sound, not bc of his physical limitations. He has all the tools and be a much more of a complete WR than Blythe

My only real knock on him (and take it with a grain of salt because he's a freshman and I'm very impressed with him) is that he gets gator arms every once in a while. Even though Sam has just missed him a couple of times, it seems like it was partially on Lazard for not extending his arms fully. Kid is long, he probably could have made those catches if he didn't develop gator arms suddenly.

I don't know. Seems to me he's also really bailed Sam out on a few bad balls and taken some shots doing it.

A legit group of Big 12 receivers for once. Next year we lose Bibbs but get back Bundrage. Bundrage, Lazard, Montogmery, mixed in with plenty other guys and a senior QB? Next years passing game should be great.
