Creighton (MVC) vs Nebraska (Big 12)If home and home are not unsual you could at least provide one example.
Creighton (MVC) vs Nebraska (Big 12)
Iowa and ISU are both BCS schools that is no comparison. I highly doubt the game will ever be dropped unless one of the schools loses their BCS status. Even then it may not be. I am not at all saying we should stop playing them. I am saying we should not play a home and home on a yearly basis.
You are sorely mistaken if you think Iowa hasn't given a lot of thought about doing this exact same thing to us in football. And the big/little brother comparison is dead on. We are in Iowas shadow-we can't compete with them money wise. That's ok because it is fun to beat them with lesser regarded talent and better coaching. I think it is pathetic that some would treat these smaller schools the way Iowa would prefer to treat us.
By the looks of when you graduated I will make the assumption that you don't remember when the football series resumed. They played at Kinnick for four straight years because our football field wasn't big or good enough for the Hawkeyes, sounds like familiar theme today.
And on your point of other states letting their schools sell out for $ Nate. Didn't your mother ever Ask you "If your friends all jumped off a bridge, would you too?"
UNC plays at UNC Ashville.
USC plays at UC Riverside.
Florida State plays at UCF.
Indiana plays at Evansville.
Texas Tech played at Corpus Christie.
Are they all dumb for doing that?
Someone (maybe you) posted a list like this before. Without searching them again, almost all of them were either:
A) 2 or 3 for 1s
B) Not ongoing regular series (just one-off games)
and
C) Almost nobody had TWO of these types of games on their schedule every year
I do not remember when it resumed. Money makes you successful, why don't we want success? If all of my friends become millionaires, I would want to be a millionaire too.
The top two teams in the state are going to play. That example is like ISU and Iowa playing home and home.
Wow...this post degenerated pretty quickly.
Everybody seems to be talking past one another. Can we agree on a few things, so we don't keep getting sidetracked?
1. Drake and UNI have proven that they belong on the court with Iowa and ISU. They're good teams.
2. I don't hear anybody saying that Iowa/ISU should NEVER play UNI and Drake. The argument here is over the venue and/or the frequency.
3. Nobody has been able to find a similar situation where a major conference team plays a yearly, continuous, OOC home-and-home series with THREE other in-state
programs (two of whom are mid-majors).
4. There's really no way to change the home-and-home series after losing to Drake/UNI without it looking like sour grapes.
Personally, I believe that if you're building a program, you look at what other successful programs are doing, and emulate it. That goes for scheduling, too.
To those that say keep the series as is, I'd ask: "If you KNEW that replacing an away game with Drake/UNI meant that Iowa State would play against Big 10 or Big East competition every year in its place, would you end the Drake/UNI series?
To those that say drop it, I'd ask: "How do you end the series without the backlash from MVC fans, sports talk personalities, columnists, etc.? And do you even care?"
This is an interesting topic. Hopefully it doesn't get hijacked by testicle talk, jumping off of bridges, or length of time as a fan.
