nobody can score in the post anymore

Sorry Doc, I do n't agree. Lard is a prototypical post scorer, which opens the outside, which, in turn, opens driving lanes. Jacobson looks like a skilled stretch 4 to me. Early in the season. (Ok, I don't know if "prototypical" is a real word.)

Playing what ifs here but a lot of people are just taking it for a fact all 4 will be back. What if Young's injury does not allow him to play 100% and he keeps re injuring it or just never comes back this year. Also, the 2 suspended what if the decision is made to extend their suspensions or not play them at all? Correct me if I am wrong but when he announced it he said AT LEAST till December?

Uh oh, are you telling me this might be a useless thread!? It really could be the downfall of us all if Cyclone Fanatic ever has a useless, time-wasting thread.

When at full strength, even the hot hand shouldn’t be too far above 30 minutes. We’ve got a very good and complete first 9 that should get major minutes every game.

The other 3 are good enough to be hidden on the court if needed. Conditt could play off Young or Lard, for example. If tonight is the start of Lewis taking a step forward, he could force Prohm to make it 10 many nights. Lewis made mistakes, but they are of the correctable with playing time variety.

Starters imo: Babb, Wigginton, Shayok, THT, Jacobson.

As long as Jacobson shoots like that, he’s starting. And he’s a good athlete for a five, particularly laterally in PnR defense.

If Prohm can exploit matchups and get them to share the ball, going small with Wigginton in for Haliburton will be fun to watch. But there could be some usage issues with Wigginton, THT, and Shayok playing major minutes together. Lard and Young better be dialed in, because Shayok, THT, and Talley will be able to get a lot of minutes at the four against most teams.

Hard to figure out who is going to start assuming Lard, Wigginton, Talley and Young all come back. I could see almost any combination of Lard, Jacobson, Wigginton, THT, Shayok, Weiler-Babb, Halliburton and maybe Talley starting. It's hard to say if we'll go giant with Lard, Jacobson and Shayok starting at once (which would be a formidable - in size - front court but maybe slower and lack shooting), or smaller with Lard/Jacobson, Shayok Wigginton, THT, Babb. There are a lot of combinations and it will be a balancing act for Prohm.

I will say we could use a better shooter on this team. Wigginton isn't the greatest shooter and this team seems to be full of drivers and slashers. They also seem to thrive at this early point with an up-tempo get out and run offense. When they get bogged down in the half court, they seem to struggle just like last years' team.

I am very hopeful, like the rest of you, but I wouldn't conclude we have a Tourney team just yet. It will be interesting to see how they all gel. We've clearly got a lot of individual talent, but I'm not convinced yet that it's complimentary talent that will go well together. We shall see and let's hope they can leave Maui with another win tomorrow which would be a satisfying trip in my book!

Can’t envision a scenario where THT does not start. Way too talented not to. Jacobson will continue to start at least when Lard initially comes back. He needs to earn back the trust of Prohm, as well as the team.

Babb
Wigginton
Shayok
THT
Jacobson

Lard
Talley
Haliburton
Young (if he returns this season)

I think Talley will eat up most of the minutes Griffin and Lewis are playing right now.

Wigginton may be our best shooter, although he does tend to take difficult ones.

I agree with this nearly 100%. I think Haliburton could beat out Talley if he shoots well.

Lard fouls way too much..assuming that continues we will see plenty of Jacobson. I'm cool with that.jacobson is looking good.

My one hope this year is that wiggington cuts the turnovers and makes an effort to share the rock.

No way Jacobsen isn’t starting the rest of the year unless he completely bombs it.

The starting lineup will probably be what we saw in the first game for the foreseeable future. Lard could displace someone I suppose.

Babb
Wigginton
Shayok
THT
Jacobsen

I don’t know who you take out there.

Jacobsen, he can still easily get 25 to 30 minutes a game and be even more effective.

You can't keep this outta the starting lineup:

And imo his perimeter defense has been very good for five. Production wise he’s perhaps the most sure bet to start if he keeps playing at this level. Is he really such a good shooter?

In terms of the starting lineup, some guys are better than others at handling playing 25-30 minutes off the bench than 25-30 as a starter. Hopefully the staff has a good sense on what buttons to push. It will likely require multiple starting lineups.

Here's what I'd like to see....

PG-Wiggi
SG-THT
SF-Shayok
PF-Jacobsen
C-Lard

NWB is the energy/effort/hustle/lock down defender type of 6th man off the bench. Solo in a similar role of energy/effort/hustle for Lard or Jacobsen. Talley takes the minutes that were going to Griffin/Lewis. Haliburton takes the biggest back seat once everyone is healthy. Condit isn't seen much at all unless Lard/Jaco/Solo get in foul trouble.

I see the starters as NWB, Wigg, Shayok, THT and Lard.

The order coming off the bench will be completely dictated by game situations. I love the idea of Halliburton getting 15-20 minutes a game and bringing that energy off the bench. Even with as well as Jacobson is playing, I think you bring him off the bench. He strikes me as a guy who would bring the same energy as a starter or bench player. I also think as hard as he plays his minutes need monitored to keep him fresh throughout the whole year. Likely would be one of those deals where he comes off the bench but maybe plays more minutes than the starter.

Otherwise, I think Conditt, Griffin and Lewis will likely just see spot minutes if we are in foul trouble. Maybe a few more for Conditt.

I think he's been the biggest reason we've been good defensively. He can either switch or hard hedge ball screens up top and stay with guards. That's huge.

Will he play Lard and Talley, or keep them on the bench as part of their punishment?
I can't imagine he would just leave them on the bench. They've been suspended for this long, Prohm has no reason to un-suspend them just to leave them on the bench. I say either the suspension is extended or they play.

It’s been a big reason, along with having four long and interchangeable guys that are able to switch everything without creating a mismatch for the other team. In conference play I suspect opponents will be better able to get one of our guards having to defend on the block, but Talley and Zion could help in defending that as small-ball fours.
