Solomon Young and Cameron Lard were definitely eased in. However, Wigginton was thrown out there right away. I think he trusts freshman just fine when they've shown they can be trusted.Who are our examples of this?

No way Lard doesn't start. Too productive offensively and on the glass.Remember that Prohm defers to his experience/seniors. I also feel that Lards offensive production goes up with Solo in the line-up ( much like Jackson Vroman's stats did with Homan in the line-up years ago). Remember too, how well Talley was playing at the end of the year, Lastly, Solo is a force in the middle on defense- just ask Tyler Cook.
I can see a Weiler Babb, Wigginton, Shayok, Talley, Solo line-up to start the season. That is a small ball run 'em out of the gym, play good defense line-up. As subs come in, the inside pressure rachets up on the opposition with the athletism of Lard and THT.
Lard has the athletism to guard away from the basket and needs to prove his commitment to do so this year in order to be starting by conference time. If not, Lard will start by conference time depending on the oppositions line-up and big man talent. Also, THT may supplant Talley if he proves to be an All Big XII caliber freshman talent.
I expect Lewis to be a much more reliable three point shooter this year. I also see Jacobsen providing solid back-up for both big men due to his experience in that other league. Halliburton will be eased into play and readied for success next year, as will Griffen.
Here's hoping our reserves get lots of mop-up time this year.
Although I agree that this is probably the starting lineup to start the year, starting both Lard and Young limits floor spacing and available shooters. Prohm predicates a lot of his offense on spacing similar to Fred, and having these two in at the same time devalues that a bit, in my opinion. I think starting either Talley or Horton-Tucker over Young is the better offensive move.Starters:
Wigginton
NWB
Shayok
Lard
Young
Rotation (15-20 min.)
Jacobsen (inevitable foul trouble with Solo and/or Lard)
Talley (played well down the stretch, versatile)
Horton-Tucker (Prove you are B12 ready)
Lewis (Got to be the 3 and D type role player)
I think right out of the gate I wouldn't be surprised if Prohm gives the nod to the seniors and starts Talley over lard at the four/send a message that he isn't going to get away with his off the court stuff without actually suspending him since the offenses were so minor. Not to say he doesn't get starter minutes, but doesn't actually start the first few games while they feel things out.No way Lard doesn't start. Too productive offensively and on the glass.

So many people seem to want to reduce Young's minutes or take him out of the starting lineup. Solo does so much more than stat sheet stuff. He'll get his minutes.
He is the functional equivalent of an offensive lineman. He sets screens, boxes out, clogs the lane, and plays good post defense. He indirectly creates space for Lard to work around the hoop and on the boards and for the guards while cutting.
None of this shows up in the stat sheet, but it all matters towards the outcome of a game. He is an old school PF. People forget what they are for. We have the added bonus that he has the personality to completely embrace such a role, too.
Since this thread is about lineups, I'll offer my thoughts. First, I really like this team ... lots and lots of potential here ... maybe more so than any team in ISU history. Chemistry and buy in will be key. To begin:
pg: wiggy
sg: babbs
sf: shayok
pf: solo
c: lard
rotation:
sg, sf: lewis, tht
bigs: jacobson ... talley
So we go 8 deep, 9 if you count Talley.
Basically ... Wiggy runs the point and when he needs a break/gets in foul trouble ... Nick runs it. First guy off the the bench is Lewis. Or maybe Talon if he is ready; THT will get minutes. Bigs are easy. Jacobson ... offers pretty much the same blue collar size/attitude as Solo ... with the bennie that he's actually got a decent shot from 3 pt range. Way I look at it ... Lard, Solo, Jacobson are pretty much interchangeable. And make no mistake ... 2 of the 3 will be in there all the time unless there is serious foul trouble. Game is 2 flexible bigs and 3 interchangeable 1-3s.
People may question Nick at the 2. I think his contributions have always been overlooked, heck ... nobody last year thought he could play the point and he averaged close to a triple double. So ... put him at the 2 and tell him to shoot more ... will he ? Can he ? Yes and yes. Between him and wiggy and shayok ... they will get their points. I see each of them averaging 12-15 pts per game. And Lewis too ... coming off the bench in a Naz type ... gunslinger role. I see Terrence averaging like 6-8 pts per game; not bad for a soph. Ditto for THT ... he will get his minutes ... might get 16 one night and 0 the next. He'll get serious minutes and score some too.
My prediction 4th in the b12 and sweet 16.
