Yeah I remember he was over 1300 one year and then dropped dramatically the next couple years - any one know why- injuries? I will always remember him for the massive block that sprung Seneca on his run.

Mike Warren had some decent running stats in Rhoads' last season. He had 245 yards against Texas Tech, even though Mangino kept trying to pass. Got overtaken by David Montgomery in 2016.

David Montgomery.

Warren ran for 1339 as a freshman. 105 as a junior, Then I think he quit football his senior year and focused on school. From what I remember, he took it all in stride and was reportedly a great teammate.. Came from a military family and academics were more important to him than anything else.

Wing-T (my all-time favorite offense). The Wing got plenty of action on counters, right? So deceptive, tricky. I'm not an indepth football guy, so there's a reason no one runs it today, I'm sure.

You'll see a lot of plays similar to a Wing-T offense if you watch Army.

Eliminating all negative running plays, Sama was 5.07 ypc, Hansen was 5.06 ypc, dead even.

Not much talk about Jayden Jackson. Kind of our forgotten freshman RB. He was a late add to the class and wasn’t an early enrollee. His highlights look like the real deal. I like his ability to follow his blocks and his physicality. Bigger back. Our RB room is loaded with talent.

What is unmistakable is he appears to be gifted with great vision. He sets up and runs off his blocks really well.

At this level of football, he is HUGE. Bigger and stronger than most of the people on the defense.

He has deceptive speed. He probably would not run a fast 40 time, in that his 10-yd split might be average, but if he gets past that first level of defenders look out. He builds up to something quite fast and very powerful.

I think Jackson definitely brings something unique to the RB room in that most of our other backs will not have his level of power. 10-yard-line and in, short yardage needs, this guy is the dude.

Didn't Mike Warren run for 1000 yards then rarely see the field again? Just because someone played one year doesn't automatically mean they should still play.

I'm a huge Sama fan, as of right now I just think there are better pure running backs on the roster. I didn't really think he's looked that good with the exception of a few long runs against BYU and K-State two years ago.

Some of that may be the fact that we were spoiled by Montgomery and Breece for so many years.

That's actually an area I would criticize Campbell, specifically that situation. Montgomery is one of if not my favorite player of all time but that doesn't warrant benching Warren. He clearly had the talent. Not the only time Campbell has underutilized players either.

I get what you're saying, but from what I remember, Warren was really good at hitting a hole and had the speed to bust a long run. In his big year, we had a really good run blocking OL but they couldn't pass protect very well. In Campbell's first year, we couldn't run block at all. There were no holes. That made Warren ineffective and we needed someone shiftier like Montgomery to get any yards on the ground.

Sure but that's pretty crappy to just eliminate a player because he didn't fit your scheme. Players, plays, formations right?

I don't think that it was nefarious. Players, formations, plays is great, but the players part has to include ALL the players including the OL. Warren would have been better off transferring unfortunately.

Did they still have the sit out year then? Kene had the same issue under Campbell. He was great at hitting the hole but not so much at turning the corner.

And I wasn't insinuating that it was nefarious but it was underutilizing talent.

The problem is that the ISU offense is historically not generally a big play offense and will be less so without our two draft pick receivers. Negative plays make moving the chains difficult and that is exactly what the offense tries to do - move the chains. ISU is much more effective controlling the ball and resting the defense when they face 2nd and 7 or less rather than 2nd and 11+. Opposing defense are obviously much more effective stopping Iowa State when they can get ISU O behind the chains.

Ya I remember he fumbled early on. I don't know the dynamics behind the scene but he was excellent before Campbell. Just never sat right with me. Especially since he was such a nice kid.
