I'd guess he was mid 70s.

Really good guy that built an incredibly successful business and poured a lot of money into the Waterloo/Cedar Falls community. He'll be missed.

That's too bad. I have plenty of nostalgia tied to him and Larry Morgan on those Raycom broadcasts of Iowa basketball. He seemed like he was having fun on those games.

What I am I missing?

From what I’ve read, he was connected to university of iowa.

Besides from being a good person (very meaningful today, really) and supporting Blackhawk county community does this relate to ISU???

I’m deliberty trying to not be insensitive and I just want to fully understand the impact of his death as it relates to ISU

It doesn't. Every Iowa basketball game was broadcast state wide back in those days. You couldn't watch ISU, Drake, or even Kansas. Many didn't yet have cable, so Iowa basketball was pretty much it. They drew broadcast market shares which today would be unfathomable. A lot of kids grew up Hawkeye fans because they didn't know any different.

Mac was a good guy by all accounts. One of the biggest Cyclone fans I know in the Cedar Valley was friends with him and they used to go to some sporting events together. Sorry to hear the news.

I'm guessing he is one of those people who if you lived over that way you grew up listening to him and still felt nostalgia even after you became a Cyclone.

Also sort of like when Pete Taylor passed everyone was saddened but he passed too soon IMO.

I honestly had no idea who Mac McCausland was. But if it's a voice you grew up with those memories cross rivalry boundaries IMO.

Not even "over that way" necessarily -- I recall SUI having a more significant TV presence in the Sioux City market than ISU did, for quite some time. CTN was a great thing for people who could get WOI, but not necessarily as much for the KTIV/KCAU/KMEG viewers.

I grew up an Iowa fan before attending ISU, and remember watching basketball games with him on the call. Sad to hear. RIP

Yeah we were lucky that we had WOI and could get CTN and the BIG 8 games on TV. But in the 70's the only BB on TV was Hawkeye Bb and those teams were fun to watch those Ronnie Lester era teams garnered a lot of viewing. I didn't actively dislike the Hawks till I attended ISU.

His son Kent played for Iowa when Tom Davis was the coach. He was an excellent 3 point shooter.

Doesn't really impact ISU, but we had five channels growing up. I watched any sports I could, which included Iowa basketball games. Not much else on in the dead of winter.

Don't worry, I didn't cheer for them then either.
