The tired argument is a no go. Shoon is out at the 4 minute mark or before every game whether is he doing well or not. Watson and Ward since Kunc became healthy don't even play. They played minutes when ISU was flirting top 10 and up at the top of the conference so it isn't that they don't know how.

A coaching issue........only with sub patterns that I can see. There is zero reason to give a player like Jones those type of minutes against this type of competition unless Shoon needs a blow or is in foul trouble. And rarely is any of that happening at the 17.00 minute mark in the first half. But every game.............there it is. And again.........Watson and Ward. They were good enough to help ISU early be the talk of the country. So what gives.........I have no clue.

Other than that my thinking is they have hit a wall of some sort. It happens to pretty much every team during the year at some point. Bad thing for ISU is it's almost March and they only have a handful of games to figure things out before hey..........wait till next year.

And Shoon still gets tired and has bad fouls even with limited minutes.

Even if they make a run in the tourney they'll get beat at some point like every ISU team has and it will be 'wait until next year' anyway.

Shoon isn't tired after 3 minutes.......

.......and I'll remember those words of wisdom next November that even if they make a great run that hey, relax....because they'll get beat at some point like every ISU team has.

Sort of takes the fun out of being a fan doesn't it Mr. Killjoy?

Jfc I don't give a **** what you're worried about, but if you give a **** about next season I'd ******* worry about it.

I do care about next season and I’m not worried about it. At all.

Not exactly sure.

So, are you stating and confirming that practices are not as brutal as it is being reported they are? From anything I've ever seen or experienced, practices for most teams, are more of a work out than games.

ISU is shooting 67% from the free throw line. If they didn't have an anchor who can't even shoot 40% from the line taking a bunch of shots they would be shooting an at least nearing respectable 71% from the line.
And that makes them last in the conference which is about 4 less made free throws per game. Some of the missed free throws were the front end of 1 & 1"s. They've lost several conference games in the last few minutes when they held leads. Yes, you are correct that they are not terrible at the line but simple things like making free throws when it counts at the end of games has not been this team's forte. Along with some key turn overs at the end of games which is attributed to a freshman and an off guard forced to play the point because of an injury to an incoming experienced recruit. This is a good hard playing team that is worn down from the Big 12 and lacks scoring talent when playing in the best conference in the US.

That's one of the best analyses I've seen in this forum for a while. Well said.

Huh?

What are your expectations for ISU basketball?

Me: consistently make the tourney, occasionally be in the running for a regular season title (late in the season), and maybe even catch lightning and be a true national contender (which has happened once over the last 40ish years in 99-00).

Should I go into next November, which is essentially another rebuild, and expect more? Is being excited as a fan of a team for making a one off tournament not enough?

The one nice thing about next year is we will have lots of young talent so we may struggle in the beginning of the year but hopefully keep improving throughout. Feel like the fast starts these first 2 years got people's expectations (understandably) a little out of whack and they weren't able to readjust. But the fast starts have also gotten us in the tournament

We will start fast, finish stronger, and never trail again.

But yet no one else but ISU is tired?

You’re totally right, all coaches use the same rotations, they do the exact same things in practice, they all stress hard defense which is 2x more energy draining than offense. I defer that we can’t be tired since every team is identical. You got it.
