Re: Malik Dime---Indian Hills

Diallo is in another class as Dime IMO, but Dime not being a juco AA like McKay means little IMO. Hogue averaged better numbers in the postseason at ISU, and played a bigger role IMO than he did at IHCC.

Fred likely saw DH was an elite leaper with a phenomenal attitude. I can't say how he's evaluating Dime but the kid has legit size and athleticism by any standard.

Re: Malik Dime---Indian Hills

Dime would be a good pickup, but if he ends up committing elsewhere, it's not the end of the world. I would rather keep the scholly for a transfer 3 after this year that I'm sure Fred could pluck from somewhere or keep it for Diallo.

Don't get me wrong, I think Dime is a good player, he just doesn't fit what Hoiberg seems to want to do. (Yes I know CFH will adapt his offense to what works best)

Looking at his tape, he seems to be primarily a Dunking/block threat. Unless his outside game wasn't shown in the video, it's hard to judge what he would turn out to be. When McKay came in, he didn't have a great shot either, but he also had a whole offseason to work on his shot with Hoiberg.

I also think our Front court is going to be a big strength of ours for 2015-2016. Personally I'm more excited about Darien Williams coming in next year.

Some good stuff here. Clearly, Fred adjusts to the talent he has, but we mostly evaluate his work as a coach based off his offensive designs more than defense. We will change this year on D with a rim protector for the first time on Fred's watch, and I believe that has been a weakness of our D and exposes our guards to not being able to play as aggressively on the perimter. Dime provides that. The question is, how does that fit with what Fred wants to do on offense? He likes to space the floor and have all 5 guys be threats to score. He also likes to run. While I don't see Dime as a threat from 3, he looks to have the athleticism to move on offense (ex. set the high pick and roll to the bucket) and to crash the offensive boards for putbacks. Haven't seen enough to know if he can develop post up skills.

Re: Malik Dime---Indian Hills

I think Fred is sick of losing to KU and gearing up to take them down specifically.
Agree, but would say it is more about reaching the ultimate goal than beating KU.
We have had one particular hole in our rotation for the past 4 years. To reach our goals we need more size, mainly on defense. I could see a guy that some would say "does not fit with what we have seen of Hoiball" as a guy that we need. In a way, the not fitting is why we need him. Just my opinion, but this is why we took a guy like Edozie.

With McKay, Williams, Nadar (wingspan), Georgie, and hopefully Diallo or Dime, we will be able to match the length if the other top teams, while still spreading them out on the other end fairly well.

Indian Hills, in addition to being a powerhouse, is sort of a unique place. Of the top of my head, I believe Hogue only averaged like 17 mpg as a soph there, and McKay only 23 mpg.

Been working the phones. Sounds like Washington is the clubhouse leader here folks.

That would be a bummer, but certainly not the end of the world.

It would be great to get Dime, but with just two schollies for next year and still in the hunt for Diallo, we will be fine without him as well.

Re: Malik Dime---Indian Hills

I think what CloneinWDSM was trying to say is Hoiball is all about spreading the floor and bigs being able to play on the arc. It looks as though (according to his highlight tapes which include only dunks and blocks) Dime does not have an outside game which will mess with the spacing and mismatch opportunities.

Building on that, McKay didn't necessarily show he had the ability to play on the arc but he also had his transfer year to sit out and develop an outside game with Hoiberg's help.

There is someone else on our team that can dunk, block shots and play defense and doesn't have an outside game. He doesn't play too much. I would love to have Dime on our team but he doesn't fit the match-up nightmare mold that we need our bigs to be.

Deft evaluation of how a guy will make your team better, for sure. Does this guy have some front office in him?

From what I've heard, Dime is basically a poor man's Jameel McKay. Frankly I'd take that. Isn't meant to be a negative if Jameel turns out to be as good as advertised. Not a great fit for Fred's system but certainly a guy who can be used as a chess piece too.

Yup, IHCC spreads the minutes around. That is why I am so excited about Jameel, he lead the team in scoring and rebounding both years, double digit rebounds in only 23 minutes/game soph season

Not to derail the thread, but sort of speaking of Jameel and Indian Hills....is the Jamaar McKay at Indian Hills now Jameel's little brother? 6-4 Sophomore wing. Just curious.

I heard that he was. I have no proof.

Fred's mentioned in interviews it's tough to evaluate their players offensive skills because they run like crazy.

Dime hasn't played BB all that long, great upside.

Why not?
