Because unless you are Kentucky your chance at any singular top-10 recruit is not good. Without any special circumstance or connection, you pretty much have no chance. What is our "in" with Monk?

That we run one of the fastest offenses in the country and our coach gives his players more freedom than any other coach in the country and that our program will spend a majority of the year in the top 15?

It's way too early in the process to act like any school does or doesn't have a chance. ISU is still visiting and meeting with him.

Saying we don't have a chance at him is different than odds are in general low that we get him. Odds are pretty low that any team can add any top 15 player like you said, but ISU's odds can be pretty decent in comparison to a lot of other schools.

Remember, this kid reached out to our staff. At least that's how I remember it from earlier in this thread.

Any reason why, or just usual Cyclone pessimism?
The fact that top ten recruits usually require a grand history of placing kids in the top 5 of the NBA draft. If thats not the case you need some sort of circumstance that no other school has. We have none. Third we've literally heard nothing besides our staff visiting him. We've had that before and that doesn't turn out well

Coffey and Bridges have shown that they have interest back in ISU where this kid hasn't had a single piece of evidence.

Malik Monk is a straight up baller. He's my 2nd favorite player in high school right now behind Jaylen Brown, who I pray doesn't go to Kansas (I think he'll go to Kentucky).

Monk is a big AR fan, brother was a big time fb player there. If he doesn't go there, he can't go to Kentucky without being hated for the rest of his life. His out would be going to Isu or kU. I would think Arkansas is the front runner especially of they are a top 25 team, but maybe he likes Fred?

I'm talking about Jaylen Brown

You honestly think Fred is going to visit this kid via private jet and continue to attend his games if he had no shot with him? Fred's a pretty busy guy. I don't think he spends that much effort unless there is serious interest from both sides. Oh, and Hines said he reached out to ISU, as others have all ready said. Does that mean we have a great shot, who knows. But all it takes is one of these kids to fall in love the program to bring them in. I would imagine a guy like Monk would get excited at seeing the wide open style ISU played with last night.

Fred isn't stupid. I think the great recruiters can tell when a player isn't really coming....maybe the once exception is Vaughn, but he had $ and a handler. When a major, major, major MN recruit still had us in his top 5, Fred knew exactly where he was going, and it wasn't ISU. I sure hope Fred thinks we can get Monk. He'd be a program changing get.

huh?

The odds are close enough to no chance to say there is no chance. We have a lot going for us compared to most other programs, but that does not mean you have a chance.

And it is no slight to the program that this is the case. Unless you are a blueblood in recruiting you have in no chance until proven otherwise.

Even making the top 5 for these types of recruits helps our national brand. Granted you want to get some but them saying its dow to Iowa State, kentucky and some other schools help perception and allows kids like Amir think its ok to go to Iowa State.

Why would Monk reach out to ISU specifically then? This kid likely isn't making his decision for another year or even more. Nobody is out here saying they are guaranteeing he is coming here, but there is certainly something to him and ISU.

Guess what, ISU is one of probably a hundred schools with interest in Monk and it might be on of maybe 10 schools or so that he has some interest in himself. Recruiting is fluid. I certainly wouldn't say we have no chance.

Great, but no one is saying we have no chance at making his top x or y. Did you think we had a 1 in 5 chance for Barnes?

You're an idiot if you think you know what that kid is thinking 100%. That is an absolute fact. No matter how smart it makes you feel to act like you do.

It's absurd to say a school that a kid reached out to has absolutely no chance to land him over a year before his official decision will be made.

Didn't win the lotto the other night? But you bought that extra ticket, right?

This is no slight to the program or staff. Always take the field for top recruits a program has no specific connection to, unless that program is Kentucky.

But with this analogy, you bought the ticket, monk reached out to isu. It says alot of where our program is that the #6 recruit in the nation that lives way down in arkansas reached out to us.
