Fizer Jr. is a kid that Prohm should watch from afar, which I'm sure he's doing. I think he's the type of kid who could have a late growth spurt, and completely change his recruiting. He's only a sophomore and is 6'4" but looks like a baby. Thinking way way ahead, but we likely have him in the bag if he ends up being a great recruit and Duke and Kentucky don't offer him. Even if they would, I could see him still choosing us out of pure loyalty and wanting to follow in his father's shoes. Pretty awesome!

Fizer dunk over Chris Mihm...Why?...because it NEVER gets old watching!

That was an assume dunk that you could see even from the corner rafters. That place was as loud as I've ever heard it. For some reason I didn't go to a lot of basketball games during my time and those were the best basketball teams we've had.

Over the past few years I keep hearing a ton about how passionate Marcus Fizer (Sr.) was/is about Iowa State. I think he even mentioned wanting to be a coach here. I am not sure about his coaching abilities, but an interesting consideration if an opening presents itself for an assistant job. It would be really cool if his son develops into a power 5 level player and came here.

It's really cool how favorably Fizer and Tinsley talk about Iowa State and Ames. And there were certainly reasons for them to not to have much of a connection given coaching changes, not being at ISU for 4 years, and not graduating. It's really a testament to ISU students, faculty, fans, and the Ames community. And Prohm also gets a lot of credit for strengthening relationships with former players, I hope it continues.

And if you weren't around for the Fizer days, this less than 2 minute video will give you some idea of what you missed:

I was at that game as a student and I don't think I have ever heard Hilton be as loud as it was when he threw that monster dunk down. That was the "ISU is for real" moment as we already knew we had a special team on hands before that happened but that caught the attention of the nation when Marcus manhandled Mihm who at the time was being talked about as the #1 pick in the draft.

Fizer to me is hands down the best player to have ever played for ISU. His last season was probably the most dominant single season I have ever seen out of an ISU player. By the end of the season teams were double and triple teaming him every time he got the ball in the paint and he would still find a way to score. If it wasn't for Kenyon Martin I think he would have been national player of the year and had he come back for his senior year ISU probably would have been the preseason #1 in the polls but you can't blame a guy for leaving when he looked like a lock for a top 5 pick in the draft. I know some will probably argue Niang and Hoiberg are better than him and as far as a legacy and impact they left over 4 years and beyond I would agree with that but as far as talent and on-court performance there is no player in ISU in my mind that was as dominant as he was at his best.

Would be pretty cool if his son develops into a P5 talent and came to ISU. Even cooler would be to finally hang Fizer's number in the rafters while his son is on the team. I get why Fizer hasn't had his jersey retired by now because of not playing 4 years and not earning a degree but I think at some point we need to look past that at hang his number from the Hilton rafters as without him some of those banners would not have 2000 on them either. His son is a 2023 recruit so with 2025 being the 25 year anniversary of that Eight 8 team which I think is the best team in the program's history would be a pretty fitting year to hand that #5 from the rafters.

Grayer was really, really good. He has my #1 ranking as he made scoring 20-25 look easy for his last 3 years.

People that never really saw him play when he was at Iowa State have no idea.

his senior year he averaged 25 and 9.4 as a 6’4 forward. I was there the day he had 24 rebounds against US International, That’s a crazy number. He also had 32 points that day.

He was also on the all defensive team all four years.

i love Fizer Sr passion for ISU but without a bachelors degree, no coaching experience and a weapons charge on his record, there's no way he's ever being hired at Iowa State University.

He coached the ISU team in The Basketball Tournament, and I could see him as some sort of assistant coach here.

TBT has no sort of requirements to be a basketball coach and ISU has sucked in those tournaments.

I cannot imagine ISU Human resources or BOR or whoever is going to approve Marcus Fizers hiring for what would be a 6 figure salary given his lack of credentials, degree and criminal record.

Just because someone was a good player for ISU 20 years ago and is passionate about Cyclone basketball does not mean they would be a good basketball coach.

Meh, pump the breaks on him. This is one Iowa State could enter late in the game and still be in the running for. I'm sure Marcus and Prohm are in communication but for CSP to offer just because he is a legacy and his dad was a stud fan favorite sounds a lot like the Murray Twins that Fran drools over. We love to laugh at that if you recall. I'm sure the Hawks would see it the same way.

If we really are itching to fill an assistant coach spot with a former player I'd rather sign Bryan Petersen. He's now up to the South Dakota State ranks and is flippin brilliant. He would be awesome for Prohm as an X's and O's guy.........plus you just know his kids if and when they play basketball will be about as fundamentally sound and smart as they come.

Right, because Hoiberg's kids are great basketball players...
