Are they going to try to send samples back to earth? Will they send another craft that will be capable of coming back, or is there a plan to send it back with the equipment that landed on Mars yesterday? That's never been done before. Correct?

If I was a single guy and they asked for volunteers to go to the red planet. I'd be in. Really cool and a great job by NASA

I would go insane after day 2 of being stuck inside a tiny tin can in space. I think I like Earth too much to leave it. :)

Agree. NASA budget is $23B this year.
I know people get worked up about that price tag, but there's $10B just in EITC fraud every year. You could have another half-a-NASA just on preventing that theft. Imagine if a bank/business had losses like that due to fraud lol.

$23 Billion. It should be 5x that. Or more. We get real value out of it -real achievement. Not just our country, but our entire species. Both in the present and for future generations to come.

At some point down the line when the rover is pretty much done and the planets are in close alignment NASA will launch a craft with the ability to remotely dock in Mars orbit with the sample probe that will launch from the surface of the rover on Mars. Eight months later? Boom. Mars dirt on Ert.

Hope there isn't some type of killer bacteria/virus in that dirt. We'll have to break all of our personalized masks out of the attic.

Could anyone provide information on how they plan to do this? If there’s a video out there, that’s be great!

I saw this last spring on 60 Minutes. It is incredible what they have planned.

Forgive me for the commercials - they weren't my idea.

FIFY lol. Yeah, you can see the name Curiosity written on the drone as it pans :)

Hmm, they have been saying this is the first rover to have a microphone to record sound. So how would the Curiosity video be able to have sound? Is the video doctored up?

Agreed. It’s cool though that 72 (?) nations and private industry are all in the space exploration mix.

It has been really fun to see companies like Space X get involved, and other governments get in on the fun. Really loved the European Space Agency’s Rosetta mission that landed on the comet. So damn cool. Hard to believe that was several years ago now.

I’d love to see us really invest and do everything we can to move the Orion program forward faster.
