That's not what it is at all. Mastodon is not really in any way comparable to sites like Parler\Truth\etc which were explicitly created with political goals.

Mastodon has existed for several years and is not rooted in politics. Yes, it has gained some attention as some people are looking for alternatives to twitter because a narcissist billionaire bought a highly-used service and is likely to drive it into the ground.

Will it get widespread adoption? Who knows. But its not like twitter is invincible either. Plenty of large and once highly-used sites have failed (or drastically decreased in usage) over the years. Myspace, digg, fark, slashdot, tumblr, etc. The list goes on and on. Twitter can fail too and something will take its space
Yes I know mastadon has been around for a while, it still doesnt change what it is/has become. And there are a LOT of other so called alternate social platforms that have tried to take the place of the major ones for years. So far none have, its not just Parler or Truth. Of the ones you mentioned I am not sure any of them beyond Myspace would ever be considered successful or saw mainstream use, for them to be considered Highly used, then decreased. And none have been close to the level of Twitter, FB, etc. But sure there can be something new that comes along, but it would need to really be something new. FB didnt try to copy Myspace, it was different and new, Twitter didnt try to copy FB it was new and different. So far everyone is trying to copy what is already successful, what is there, and putting some political or other spin on it. That is not really going to work, that is only going to drive the most radical or fringe people there for those reasons, not because its something new/different/cool.

You and others can bet against Musk all you want but he is the richest man in the world for a reason, and its not because he makes bad business decisions, and he has a huge amount of support and followers. He also has built and runs many uber successful billion dollar companies. That are on the cutting edge of everything from digging holes, to going to space.

Personally, I will put my bet on Musk and his companies before I bet on any of those trying to compete with him, or bet that he will "run Twitter into the ground" because I might have a different political view or be scared of someone he allows on the platform I dont like. Or because he refuses to censor those I dont agree with.

There is already talks of him restarting Twitters Short form video platform, to compete with the Tik Tok etc videos, And talk of long form to compete with YT, with income generation. The thing some are focused on is he is airing the Dirty laundry and getting rid of the people that didnt want to actually work. Will there be bumps, sure, just like every change in ownership has, but I expect it to succeed in the end.

I think it is hilarious the people that are bent out of shape over him buying Twitter. Its absolutely hilarious, a whole lot of cope being dealt.

And still my Tesla stock is still doing much better than all his so called competitors stocks are.... of which I unfortunately also own several as well.

If I understand it correctly, it is a decentralized platform that you basically have to host yourself. While I can definitely see the value in that right now, in this climate, it seems like a lot of work for less appeal. I basically view it as a lifeboat if all other forms of open communication have been compromised.

This isn't a thread to discuss whether people should or shouldn't move to Mastodon. Please keep it that way.

Isn't that kind of what Myspace was? I don't remember there being a 'feed' that you saw others updated in. Might be thinking different.

I've never understood the need for people to use about every avenue possible if it's only social. I've been around people that 'have' to do a selfie, then update their FB, Snapchat, Insta, and Twitter feeds before they do anything else. Weird.

Tesla stock is down 54% this year. Ford is 36%, GM 35%, Toyota 21%. What competitors is it beating?

For the record I don't own Twitter stock and I haven't been on the platform for years. CF is the only social I'm on. You couldn't pay me to get back on it so my opinions on twitter have nothing to do with Musk. I'd also love a Tesla vehicle so while I think Musk is an absolute tool I would have no problem using a product or service that he owns.

This is going exactly how I thought it would when I read the OP.

Somebody said Mastodon was different from Truth Social but there's apparently a lawsuit because they run on the same code? Just a different information silo to sit in.

Mastodon is an open source software. Truth Social used the software but originally hide their source code in violation of the open source agreement, but eventually shared it. That was over a year ago.

Not exactly sure.
Be sure to leave comments discussing the furniture and floral arrangement of the set. It's just not a good video if the setting isn't just right.
I think there was talk that VRBO or AirBnB was getting used for porn videos at times. Rent them for a week, get busy and walk away. Hire the cleaners if you find that out.

'
If I recall, Truth stole the code from another site to use as their own. That is how they were able to get it up and running relatively quickly. However, I think the code was open source, so that's probably what the lawsuit is about.
