People also don’t understand that we’d have to pay even more to fire Prohm to bring in someone “cheaper” lol.

BuY OutS aRe sPrEad OuT oVeR SevEral YeaRs. I know your hourly job doesnt work like that, but these ones do.
It was Fred’s one true dream in life to coach in the nba.

Right, and MC it isnt, so there has to be another reason. Like our AD making one good hire in his term and acting like he is king dingaling so he can throw more money at cross country?

I don't think he is leaving, but if he went to NFL it may because he would feel less conflicted leaving Ames for NFL vs. a different college team.
This. Plus the Jets job is a coach killer job. Way too many holes ay key positions. Plus, I don't get the impression Matt is a New York kinda guy.

If he does interview it means he's looking elsewhere. Get over it. Ames is not the destination spot most Cyclone fans think it is. And for the argument as to how much money does someone really need. Anyone in any job anywhere would have to at least listen to an offer of 3 or 4 times their current salary.
So the jets are offering $12 - $16 million year to their next coach?

I also think based on what we believe to know about him, he knows he's got the personnel to win a championship next year. NFL jobs will be there next year, etc. Sure, big money could make anyone ditch goals. If we cleared out the starters, etc I could be more worried.

But others have said it...end of the day, he can do whatever he wishes and we know JP will get a shot to discuss with him.

This reminds me a lot when Orr retired... Did he quit because he did not want leaving the cupboard bare? Or did he want to come back and he was told no?

I know Matt's situation is different and it will be up to Matt what he wants to do. Regardless, he has been great for ISU and let's hope he stays and give the media outlets a big "screw you."
Orr did not quit. JS opened the door and shoved a boot up his ass to get him out. It's a big reason johnny always referred to him as "that ass hole"

You realize people said that about coming to Iowa State right?

You also have to remember, it’s not like Campbell’s their only candidate here. They aren’t dead set on hiring him. And if he does interview, we don’t know if he’s dead set on accepting.

They are interviewing a ton of candidates right now.

That is true... but Campbell has proved it wrong. At the college level, the coach has more control and job security. Ferentz has made a very nice living playing (mostly) mediocre football in a very mediocre conference. Apply that standard to the NFL and you will get fired quickly.

If they give him GM privileges, he will have a lot of control. Plus, people take hard jobs to prove that they are good coaches. Campbell hasn't always done the easy thing, which is why he is so good.

Most of the the time (not all), the coach also being the GM usually fails in the end.

I will say this: coaching pro athletes is a completely different animal than coaching kids. Pro athletes know they are more valuable and their coaches are more expendable. The college gig is far more secure and don't underestimate the value of teaching and molding young kids vs. dealing with prima donna athletes of the NFL.

We will see soon enough what Matt wants. It's his career and passion. Let's hope as ISU fans, his desires favor staying in Ames and creating a true legacy.

Have you checked out the Jet's GM, Joe Douglas? Control freak (and an arrogant a**hole).

The story is gaining momentum but I still think he stays. THE ONLY WAY HE LEAVES is if he gets more than head coach power. The only saving grace for me is I am also a Jets fan. I started liking them when Crutchfield went there and they've always been my team. To be clear I hope he stays in Ames.
