I just want everyone in this thread to stop....

Pause, just a moment....

Take as much time as you need to really, truly reflect.....

on the truly astronomical amount of sex Matt Thomas is getting at this exact moment.

After all the **** he's been given and how down everyone (mostly) was in his contributions in past years, I'm so damn glad he's got this wonderful moment of glory to wash all that negativity away! He'll (and Cyclone Nation) will remember this and relish it forever.

So happy for the young man!

Uthoff def made it look bad. Hope Nader doesn't let it get in his head

Several people were worried about who could guard Uthoff, with good reason. He's a tough match up. Nader had the size to do it, but not the quickness. Matt didn't have the size, but he was quick enough to stay on him, and strong enough to hold his ground.

Great for Matt! But NO!!! He doesn't need to start. Because he's playing his best ball in the role he's in. Let him ride with it! I may be wrong, but I think I'd rather have Nader in foul trouble than Matt, so let Nader still start.
The Matt Thomas Fan Club is perfectly fine with Matt coming off the bench, FWIW.

Really though, Matt was playing at a high level for a while last year but he followed it up with a bad game and Fred took down his minutes. Nothing wrong with that since BDJ was able to produce and those two were competing for minutes, but I think that's the main reason Matt has never been able to consistently play at a high level. He's never been given consistent minutes -- aside from the very beginning of his career -- but now he's in a position where he's essentially guaranteed minutes.

I think he'll continue to play at a very high level, especially with his rebounding and defense. Shooting, I'm sure he'll have some bad nights like Naz and Nader did tonight, but that's just part of the job. That's what makes this team special: two of our starters can play poorly against a solid rival and we can still come out with the win.

I've been defending this guy all year long. He is lights out when he plays with confidence. Tonight, he did just that.

Not only was his 3-ball on point, but he helped hold Uthoff to two points in the second half.

Don't have much to say, just want this thread to stay at the top. Incredible performance, some of those 3's he took in the first half were just ice cold.

Pretty fitting considering the piece that was done on him and the discussion from the commentators last night. He's a hard worker and it has paid off. That is the kind of stuff I love about college sports...watching the history of a kid play out in front of thousands. Bottle it up, Matt...and know that you are in one of those moments you'll look back on and dream about later.

Matt ******* Thomas!

I feel like the Prez of the Club (me) should have a say in this before the VP (you) posts what our Club thinks.

Somewhere in the U.S.
Matt played a great game, and he seems to be improving as the year progresses.

In and interview, he made a comment about the article by Gottlieb. Maybe that helped to serve as some motivation for him, and it was good for all that to get out in the open. You would think that nights like last night will only build his confidence, plus I think it is huge for MT that TJ is now on the ISU staff again.

I also think the Prohm needs to look at maybe resting Naz a little more in games, and playing MT more, at least in the early part of the season. Something is off with Naz, and I would think it has to be related to the surgery, or the time off, or the recovery. He is just not hitting his shots like he has in the past. He is going to be needed for the Big 12 games, and for a couple of the non-conference games still, but the staff needs to figure out how to help him get better and back to the old Naz.

He is the MVP of this team so far this year.

Definitely the MVP of the Iowa game, and possibly the season so far. However, in all honesty we have 5 players that IMO can share the MVP for the season so far. At different times, Niang, McKay, Morris, Nader, and Thomas have all had MVP type performances. Long and Cooke have also had very solid seasons! Everyone has really stepped up at some point, and that is an encouraging sign going forward. Add Burton to the mix, and who knows!

Great to see Matt have a break out game. I'm impressed with his ability to create his own 3pt shot. His pump fake, dribble-in, and step back move is clutch when he has it going.

I'll ditto a lot of what has been said already. Happy to see him have a great game. I would rather have him come off the bench and provide a spark. He'll start next year.

I have been waiting for a game like this out of him since he got here. My family lives near Onalaska so I got to see him play 3 times when he was a senior in HS when I was at home for winter break. What he did last night was exactly how I remember seeing him play in those HS games. Couldn't be happier for him.
