Re: Mcdermott's motto: It's Morgan's fault.

It's more of ultra-McDermott Supporters' motto, but anyway

If you look at it, especially from a recruiting standpoint...Morgan didn't really have much more talent than GMac has had here. Just recruiting wise, Morgan had a total of one more Rivals top150 players than GMac has had and just averaging that stuff, they averaged the same rating of player. Also GMac managed to recruit Wes Johnson, who wasn't recruited out of HS/prep school much at all, but he had the talent (Would be a high 4 or 5 star now).

I never bought into this stuff. GMac had the opportunity to retain players after he got hired, but it never happened. Brackins was a better recruit/talent than Taggart, and DG was just as highly touted as Stinson out of HS (which wasn't THAT high..at the bottom of the rivals 150). Colvin is around the same as Blalock too recruiting wise.. Not to mention GMac managed to recruit the Nebraska, Iowa, AND Wisconsin Mr. Basketballs (and the runner-up Wisconsin Mr. Basketball) to come to ISU.

Another thing you don't know to be true. Stinson, Blalock - both left before Greg was hired. Carr, had issues and was speculated to be leaving regardless.

If he doesn't produce this season? Absolutely gone....He's 15-44 in his first three season against teams who ended up with winning records and only one of those wins was against a team that actually made the NCAA Tournament and just a few others against teams which made the NIT (compare to Morgan's like 25 he won against NCAA teams in three seasons). This year we're 3-6 against winning teams so far. He doesn't even have a winning season and the only reason he's near .500 is because every year we beat easy teams in non conference and go 9-5, or maybe 10-4 in non conference and then get smoked in the Big 12 (He's 15-39 in Big 12 competition by the way...I think 5 of those wins are against Nebraska, 3 to Colorado, etc)

Now, I think we are a lot better this year than his first three seasons which is even greater reason why he should be let go if he doesn't do ****. Not to mention we have so many players quit/transfer on him in just a short time...I don't pin the Lucca thing on GMac at the moment, but almost every other transfer I will except maybe Eikmeier.

Anyway, we have a lot of talent, but no results after this year, his fourth season = no job.

Oh come on...you are just "twisting" the numbers to support your weak argument!:jimlad:

I remember Stinson and Blalock initially saying they were going to leave before the new coach was even announced, then someone convinced them to wait and see who the new coach was and then they decided officially to leave once they found out.

Carr was a different story and I never specified which players in my statement but GMac had all of Morgan's players to convince to return and he only convinced one (Rahshon Clark)..What of everyone else? What was their excuse?

I remember Will (maybe even Curtis) being there at McD's introductory press conference. McD was asked if he would like to have Will back, and he turned to the crowd and said something like "would you like to have him back?"

At that point I dont think Will had announced his intentions.

So how did Greg have a real shot at Stinson and Blalock if they had already declared to leave, then did the token "well we will see who is hired" statement?

And check the facts, Clark was not the only player Greg "convinced" to stay.

Again, rip on Greg for real reasons - I won't dispute it and in many cases will agree. But to go at him for baseless stuff is foolish.

Deace busted out a stat on the show this morning:

Of ALL of the BCS coaches, 1 out of 66 has missed the NCAA tournament for 4 years in a row and been allowed to return for his 5th season.

And that was Scott Drew at Baylor taking over after players were killing each other.

That should show you how many other schools will tolerate this lack of performance.

He's wrong. Jeff Lebo at Auburn--not until the 5th year.

They didn't declare to leave until after GMac was announced because someone convinced them to wait and see..at least one of them. Look it up. Find a good article about it from the time. I also remember being a member of Rivals and this being inside info on the board.

Oh sorry, I left out Mark Currie, Dustin Streiff, Chris Caesar, John Neal, Jeff Bergstrom, Ross Marsden, and Jessan Gray....5 guys, maybe even 6, that weren't going to be playing D1 ball anywhere else. Gray was a stretch and Clark was the only guy who had semi-legitimate D1 talent. Almost everyone else were walk-on clean up duty guys.

But you're correct, that's pretty non-trivial. Let's focus on something more trivial like the fact McDermott is 15-44 against teams that ended up with a winning record (18-50 if you count this year so far) and 15-39 against Big 12 play. The fact we have a lot more talent this year and if we don't end up with even a winning overall record, he's completely underperformed on it? I hope it's not the case, I hope to god we win, go to the NCAA tournament, blah blah but if he doesn't even have a record over .500 at the end of this year? Well..I mean come on, how can you tolerate four straight losing seasons out of four seasons with barely any conference wins and literally a third are against a mediocre team that hasn't made the NCAA Tournament since something like 1992?

You seriously don't remember Jiri, eh? If you can't get your facts straight...no point in continuing.

As for Greg's record, it's pathetic and there is no disputing it...as I've already stated.

This is completely non-trivial information. I listed everyone else but Jiri Hubalek. Mark Currie, Dustin Streiff, Chris Caesar, John Neal, Jeff Bergstrom, Ross Marsden, and Jessan Gray I listed. 4 of those guys were walk ons...of course they returned. Where the **** else are they going to go?

Sorry I forgot one guy but if you really think we could have built a team with Mark Currie, Dustin Streiff, Chris Caesar, John Neal, Jeff Bergstrom, Ross Marsden, Jessan Gray, and Rahshon Clark and expected to compete in the Big 12 then you're on something.

No you see, I'm talking about good players and the only "good" player was Rahshon Clark..Jessan Gray had potential but never showed it. Jiri Hubalek didn't have REMARKABLE playing time under Morgan..it wasn't small, but it wasn't amazing. Actually Ross Marsden had more minutes than Hubalek under Morgan. Jiri and Clark were the only two "good" players who came back and you can't built talent around two guys + lower tier D1 talent if not D2

Here is my input...the only thing that is going to make me think he deserves to be here is if he beats a ranked team and finishes .500 in the conference. And i do not see that happening i mean you guys argue he is a good coach but if the man cant even beat a ranked team in his 4 years at iowa state then he needs to be gone. I mean we have the talent, an arena where we rarely lose at home so a fan base that supports us, and we have 2 nba caliber players. But yet we have not beaton a ranked team is discusting.

I like the man, and think he can coach. I also KNOW that we cannot afford to buy him out, so deal with it or pay the money to get rid of him.

lets see if he can actually out coach another big 12 coach instead of rely on talent, Coaching wins close games and well look at this team, cant hit free throws which can be coached, cannot rebound which can be coached, cannot play defense which can be coached...hmm how do we change these things because they have been a problem during the entire mcdermott era. WE NEED A NEW COACH

One thing I find interesting is that a lot of people are saying that McD is really putting together a talented team and has some talented guys coming in. Then others are saying that they don't want to take a step back if there is a coaching change because the cupboard is already bare. Here's a though. Maybe a new coach could come in here and take this "talent" that McD has brought in and actually win with them. Personally I have serious doubts about the recruits McD brings in and would have no issues at all with starting over again. It's not like we are on top of the world now. McD just doesn't excite the team or the fan base. One more year of this and Hilton is going to be like Texas Tech's home arena.

I like McDermott and I think he is a good coach. I want him to be our coach next year. I can still justify a lot of the players leaving. I do not have the energy to watch another new coach go through all this.

Will had announced he was 'testing the waters' of the NBA while Morgan was still the coach. Carr had announced he was leaving before Morgan left.
