The guy has a 7'4" wingspan. He's not going to get bulky.

He is an energy guy. Someone that annoys everyone he plays against. He is going to grab offensive rebound and tire the other center. He will get his fair share of dunks, but his value offensively is applying pressure on the defense in the paint on breaks. I can see the extra pass ball reversals to Naz in the corner now. He's a great fit for the offense especially since he will likely play in short spurts because he goes so hard.

I had low expectations for him mostly because everyone was going so nuts. He looks better than I expected. Another great recruiting job by Hoiberg.

Well we played drake and MVSU. I want to see him play Vs. a really team.
Really how is he 6'9 215? If he adds 20 to 35 pounds he could be a nightmare.

Yeah, except half the time Edozie turns the ball over when he gets it in the paint. I've never seen such a strong guy get the ball slapped out of his hands so easily.

As for the op, no offense but two games against crap teams makes any kind of statistical analysis absolutely worthless. It's way to small a sample against two teams that aren't anywhere close to representative of our normal strength of opponent on the schedule. Gonna have to stick with the qualitative analysis for now, which amounts to he looks pretty ******* good!

There's a quote somewhere from the Indian Hills coach about how McKay has the quickest 2nd jump of anyone he'd ever coached.

There was one time last night that was really impressive how quickly he was back above the rim after one of his own shots. I imagine that will be one of his biggest strengths.

I think you are overestimating the importance of FT% juuuuust a tad bit. Might he be subbed out on offense late in the game? Sure. For argument sake, lets say he shoots 50% from the line and he gets fouled every single time down the court. That still equates to 1.0 points per possession which isn't completely horrible for a team offense.

You aren't factoring in 1 and 1s.
True 50% shooter will only average 4.5 makes in those 6 possessions.(0.75)

You are right, I was only figuring in shooting fouls because the original statement was that he would only play 15 minutes and wouldn't play at end of game or half because of free throw shooting.

He could lose some of his quickness which is one of his strengths along with his length. Why do you want him to be Cameron Ridley? He's an energy forward, not a bruiser down low.

Of course the competition was weak, but you can tell how a guy moves if he has any game. It was obvious in Monte's first exhibition game that he would contribute right away.

He's not going to be all conference, but he doesn't need to be.

Kareem Abdul Jabbar weighed only 225 pounds and was 7'2" according to wikipedia. You don't have to be that wide and heavy to make an impact.

His numbers will be forever fluctuating because his role will never be the same two games in a row. Will we need him against Texas? Absolutely. Will we need him against Texas Tech? Probably not. He provides something we don't have without him-- rim protection-- but there are some games we won't need that so much. Some games, he'll look like one of our most valuable guys and other games he'll look like a decent bench option, nothing more. Completely depends on the opponent/situation.

I think he will consistenly be the first man off the bench, or will be starting by the Kansas State game. He has an insane motor.

Don't really care where he ends up with points/rebounds/blocks per game. The biggest plus is that he will help us match up with teams that require a difference maker in the middle. I think he brings 3 or 4 W's to the record.

Man-to-man, against Ridley, Gipson, etc - he might get eaten alive. But I'm betting the staff has a plan for the 260 pounders he'll play against. His defensive impact was never going to be about manning up against the true centers... It's a bout transition and help defense.

Before we saw McKay play everyone wanted to send either Hogue or Naz to the bench for McKay, I think the starting lineup stays the same and McKay's evergy comes off the bench unless someone struggles mightily or McKay becomes Kelvin Cato

Nader, McKay, Thomas and Edozie off the bench is by far the deepest we've had possobly ever.

I think going forward Fred will rarely play Custer and Tslaboris so he can tighten the rotation some. Naz looks to be our backup point this year

Wish Custer was further along. Still a bit worried about having only one primary ball-handler. In terms of numbers that is as deep of forward position as I can remember. Man, we would have been crazy had we been able to pick up Dillon Brooks this summer.
Looking at that rotation, Cooke, Williams, and Burton will fit in perfectly.
