Summit Great Northern Porter is a good version of Guinness. A Shandy Gaff is surprisingly good too, it is Sprite under Guinness which sits on top of it like oil and water. Love the Coors light, but if I had to choose one it would be Boulevard Wheat or Goose Island 312.

Big beer brawl brewing – MSN Money

Yikes. Ever since I toured the Coors brewery and sampled it fresh I have liked it. But I definitely miss the taste of the fresh brewed stuff. Miller is decent, but for some reason I view it as a lady beer, probably since thats what I always see ladies drinking. I think this team up will be good for the two companies if they want to grab a bigger share of the market. And who knows, maybe the two of them together can come out with some great varieties of beerski.

Wow, a battle over water flavored beers...I wonder who will win...wait, I don't care. Fat Tire RULES!!

Do hard financial times cause beer stock to rise? I was just wondering how much alcohol gets consumed during times of financial woes.

Ok, so has anyone else tried the apricot ales? Is it just me or do they smell like strippers? I love it!

Ha ha, you almost made my pepsi fly out my nose. Where do you find apricot ales? Can you get them in a store?

Yeah, anyplace that has a large selection, Summit has a good one. Sometimes I just like to open one, sit it under my nose lay back, close my eyes and imagine...

my philosophy on preferred beer types:
  1. Is it free?
  2. Is it cold?
  3. Is there enough?
After that I do prefer my genius ... I mean Guinness.

- keep.

If you like Guiness, try Murphy's stout. I like it better than Guiness, but some don't.

Five pages of discussion and not ONE person mentions Shiner Bock. Phenomenal, smooth dark beer that doesn't taste like dark beer.

I'm not a fan of the macrobrews. I was a liquor guy for a long, long time and Shiner is what turned me.

As a Wisconsinite, I think I'm somehow morally obligated to like Leinies. My family is from Chip. Falls, I toured the Leinenkugels brewery when I was about 5. Sunset Wheat is great (The day I found out Sherlock's in H-town was getting it on tap was a wonderful day for me). I'm also a fan of the Summer Shandy and the Apple Spice (try it heated around Christmastime - it sounds terrible but is actually really good). Not so much a fan of Honey/Berry, and I'm going to try my first Oktoberfest later tonight.

Summer Shandy is one of my new favorites... I wish I would have stocked up before they pulled it for the season...

See, I like bud select as well, but I get made fun of. Its not bad.

i can't see why Bud Select would be considered embarrasing for a male to drink. it has a very solid taste - unlike Bud Light, Miller Light, or Coors Light. At least it isn't Mich Ultra

Michelob Ultra still has more taste than bud light. The funny thing is, it has more calories than miller lite, but has no flavor.

Miller Lite is the best beer for things like tailgating and parties. It is good and still has a beer taste to it. Heineken is the way to go for a one or two beer night.

Sam Smith's Nut Brown Ale ... fantastic, but $8 to $10 for a four pack is a little high.

Mississippi Mud in the crock-bottle is also good.

The usually though is Shiner 98 Bavarian Style Amber, Shiner, or Shiner Light.

So after this stupid thread, my buddy and I are going to a beer shop next week to start getting ingredients. Any suggestions on one close to Ames?
