I'm quite certain neither one does. Have you checked the scorebooard from last year's Kent game lately? Or are you just looking for excuses to degrade your own players?

Easy killer, just saying we're 3-5 in our nonconference schedule the last 2 seasons. Not exactly world beaters.

We've split with Kent State in AMES the last couple seasons - that's not impressive.

Everybody is penciling in 3 wins ... odds are we lose at least 1 before the EIU game

I don't like the odds of the odds that you are talking about. :jimlad:

I think the poll could benefit from splitting conference/non conference. For instance, I'd be much happier with 4 wins if they are all conference wins than with 4 wins all non-conference. I will not be happy with only 1 conference win, but I'd probably accept it. I think NDSU and Kent State could show our growing pains, and Iowa is actually a good team. I expect to beat Army. By conference, hopefully we'll be fairly comfortable with who we are as a team.

I just did the "we" thing even though I'm not on the team. HA

If we win 4 conference games, I'll go streaking through the streets.

So we lose our first game? Nice.

I get Chizik lost to Kent St but he completely overhauled our offense and ran what looked like about 15 plays the whole game. Herman's spread, while having to work out kinks, is not a menality shift like it was when Chizik and McFarland came in.

This. If we go 4-0 in the non-conference and lose the Big XII games I will not be happy with 4-8.

However, if we go 2-2, win 2 or 3 conference games and finish 5-7 I would be happier because not only did we show improvement throughout the year, but we did it in our actual conference.

0 = Jump off top floor of towers.:realmad:
1 = Stab my hand with a butter knife.
2 = Throw desk at wall, tear down ISU posters. (D4 style)
3 = Email Jaime Pollard in disgust.
4 = Drink Jack n' Cokes til I feel better.
5 = Pissed we didn't get 6, slightly optimistic for next year.
6 = Fairly happy if we get a bowl game.
7 = Remember the 7-5 McCarney years? Pretty pumped.:biggrin:
8 = Very enthused, Cotton Bowl?
9 = Equaling the most wins in ISU history = Holy cr@p.
10 = Umm... wow, just wow.
11 = HA! Happiness nearing insanity.:jiggy:
12 = Dude, WTF just happened?
13 = The other teams did play right? MIND BLOWN.
14 = Hell freezes over repeatedly.

You mean Ace0000087 style? By the way, I haven't seen your Seneca jersey in awhile.... :wink:

Look at it this way, we probably start 2-2 or 3-1. Then need a win or two to get to a "promising" season. I would be content with four, almost equally content with five and pretty ecstatic with six.

However, I will not accept a 4-0 or 3-1 start then losing every conference game again. All that shows is that we are just as far behind as we used to be in the Big XII with both players and coachces.

I do not think that will happen but I also did not think we would lose to Kent St in Chizik's first game or UNLV on the road last year.

Our best chances to steal a road game in conference are A&M and Mizzou and if we steal one at home vs Colorado then that gives us 3-5 in the conference. I guess we will find out if playing all those freshmen last year really will pay off or not.

I picked 6. I don't think a non-bowl season can be called a "success" anymore, and I suspect most of the players and coaches on the team would agree with that.

That said, my expectations are more like 4-5 wins given new systems (which will take some time for the players to master) and the talent level. If we go bowling it will surpass my expectations, but I can't call meeting relatively low expectations a success.

Four wins with one being a conference victory would be acceptable to me...

hellsbells danny mac won 3 his first year as did donnie duncum so 4 wins would be a good start on the road back to respectability...

Coach Rhodes Rocks...sez my grand daughter:yes:

I know I'm being dogged about it, but I'm just trying to be fair to PR.

People drooled as Chizik stepped off the plane and he only gave us 5 wins in 2 seasons. Dan won a lot of games at ISU and he only won 3 games in his first 2 seasons.

You're expecting PR to start his career at ISU with 5-6 wins?!?!

Optimisim is great, but comeon people.

Well, I'll never be happy with anything less than a bowl season. But I only expect 4, maybe 5 wins.

I voted for 5, but there are some other things I'd really like to see. Not only is winning at Kent St. crucial, but we really need to win a conference road game (actually, after last year, we need to win any conference game, but this road monkey is ridiculous). Also, I want to see a team on the field that looks like they belong in the Big 12 conference. Our guys shouldn't be overmatched to the point of embarrassment. Our defense shouldn't fold like the French army. And our coaches should at least have a clue what they're doing. Fortunately, I think PR is the guy to bring about this change, but this team really needs to be at least 3-1 in the non-conference and winning "Farmaggedon" at Arrowhead as well as possibly the home game against CU or the final game at Mizzou must be attainable.

We are only going to be Vegas favorites in three games – North Dakota State, Kent State, and Army. Four wins would exceed expectations and 5 wins would definitely constitute a successful season. I am really hoping we can win the three games we are supposed to and pull two upsets. Obviously, I would love for one of those upsets to be EIU; however, I am not going to be picky. Five wins would be huge from a recruiting stand point, fan enthusiasm stand point, and give us some great momentum going into future years. From listening to Paul Rhoads mic’d-up at the Spring Game a bowl game seems to be the goal for this team which would be minimum six wins. That’s lofty yet not impossible.

Agree. Let's not get crazy here. We're heading into a year in the Big 12 where we unfortunately have the least talent of any team other than maybe K-state. (as much as it pains me to say) If we can get 2 Big 12 wins I will be very satisfied. I think 1 is absolutely necessary. I see our only realistic chances for W's in Big 12 play as KSU, CU, Baylor, and possibly A&M.

KU, Mizzou, NU, OSU will be far too much I'm afraid.

As for non-conf:

There is no excuse for losing to a D1AA team at the D1 level. That is simply poor coaching and poor execution. If we don't pound NDSU I'll be a little nervous.

As for Kent St., tough game on the road but they had heavy losses in key positions on O and a huge chunk of the D. We beat them soundly last year and I think we can pull off a win again. It's trap game potential after the Iowa game though.

Army is another must win. They have a new coach and the game is in Ames. I will be very dissapointed with a L here.

I expect 3-4 wins. I'll be extremely happy if we outpace that.

I said 5 would be expected.....reasons:
1. better coaches IMO - better schemes if nothing else is different that alone equates to 2 wins....
2. Looking at SimpsonCy's post about last season so true.....
To be fair to our team, how close was this team to 5 wins last year:
SDSU - W 1-0
KSU - W 2-0
Iowa - L 2-1
UNLV - L: get an incredible come from behind touchdown and PAT to tie it up as time expired, then kickoff and say thanks for letting us play!!!! So close to being 3-1, road win and something to build off of for character.
Kansas - L: completely dominate this team in first half. Second half - get caught not coaching and let our guard down...couple quick strikes and you see the confidence leave the team. again could be 4-1 at this juncture of the season with a quality win over a very good team.
Baylor - L: Flat, got it handed to us. 4-2
Nebraska - L: Worst game plan i've ever seen on defense....again we didnt have a chance in this game. 4-3
A&M - L: turnover that wasnt a turnover changes one possession game into 14 point win!!! 4-4
OK St - L: too much too often!!!! 4-5
Colorado - L:Chance to win on last play of the game on the road...5-5
Missouri - L:See Ok St...5-6
Kansas St - 600 yards of offense and another turnover at the 4.... finish 6-6

If our season played out this way, i wonder how people would be evaluating our season and our chances for success this year. Looking at it, we only got it handed to us in 4 games and although Iowa made the plays to win the game, imo we controlled that game, just couldnt get the scores or big plays when we needed it and they deserved it because they did!!!!!

My scale:

2=Displeased
3=Acceptable but not overly excited
4=Satisfied and optimistic for 2010
5=Streaking down Welch Ave

Anything outside of 2-5 would floor me.

I would go with this too, except the streaking down Welch part, but yes anything outside 2-5 I'd be floored. Of course 1 win would mean I would have to flip the eff out and gett drunk every chance I could to drown the pointless thoughts of football. 6 wins would mean I would flip the eff out and get real drunk at the bowl game.

ISU has a better chance of beating Aggie on the road than you do of beating Baylor at home. you will beat KSU and you will be favored in that game, but that will probably be the last one of the season. I had you at 4 wins when picking the divisions.
